People who do that here should be shot. I could care less what they do elsewhere because I'll probably never have to struggle to translate it.

If you can't speak (including type) properly, you probably aren't worth listening to.

what annoys me is that it actually takes me longer to read that because i have to pause and figure out each word. so the poster saves time when typing at the expense of those who read the posts.

though i'm sure with practice i would be able to read that faster and more accurately. but why should i have to do that when we've already got an agreed upon spelling and grammar system that the majority of people already use?

I imagine that the sound 'gurck' is what comes from them as they have the ever-lovin air choked out of them..

I've stopped commenting on this when I come across it after a little exchange in UT2k3 where I asked someone if they'd just gotten a new keyboard. When he asked why, I told him because he typed like a fvcking monkey. It turns out I was playing with a little kid and his mother and she, laughing, pointed out that he was seven years old. It occured to me that as an adult (31 years old), I participate in alot of activities (message boards, online gaming, etc...) that most adults would consider juvenile and it's more likely that the feeble mind behind the horrific gibberish is 1/3 or 1/4 of my age. Regardless of my real feelings about this blatant abuse of the language (I have an English degree), I found it best to just turn a blind eye, as long as the message gets across. I see no reason to think that this style of typing is anything but the future of communciation. I recall Heinlein calling for a streamlining of the language in something he wrote in the early 50s to make it more intuitive, and frankly it seems it may just happen.

I just elect to not read their crap, for I assume that they have nothing of significance to say. Oh, and that they're 8.

I can't stand it either, it just seems so commonplace sometimes that I wonder if the death of the language is inevitable. Good to see I'm not alone, though I'd expect a lot of different answers once school lets out, if it's still on page 1 ;)

It bothers me a lot. I did that when I first started typing on messenger programs because it would take me forever to get one sentence out but I finally learned how and now it bothers me when people do it.

Even if the typist is only 7 years old, most 7-year-old can spell "your" and "be." In games or other situations where fast typing is encouraged, I tolerate the behavior. In emails or on message boards I find it excruciatingly annoying. It is very very hard to take someone seriously when they convey their thoughts in gibberish.

It's like ebonics. It's a huge step back from all the hard work you've put into your education at school.

Simple, while I hate grammar and spelling nazis, I also hate people who don't attempt to use proper words. Most people here and most places type up quickly, so I know that words will accidentally become mispelled. Also grammar may be beaten with an ugly stick when you are hacking out a sentence pretty fast. But the bottom line is to try, I hate how people use stupid abbriviations and slang when they write. It is especially worse when they are asking something, most more mature boards where I post that are in more of a professional setting will not even read or repsond to people like that. I personally can forgive the accidental errors but not the constant and intentional ones. See my sig.
