That would make stuff more interesting, but I don't watch many televised sports, so that wouldn't make much of a differenc to me (I don't own a TV).

I never got why NASCAR became popular. Is it interesting to watch people drive a car around a loop for a few hours?

Actually NASCAR does come off pretty good on TV, especially now that they use all those on car camera's. It really shows how hairy it is behind the wheel of one of those Cars, especially when the sh!t hits the fan.

Then it would turn into SCCA or what ever the road racing league is that they race everything from honda CRX's to BMW 3 series.

I think Nascar would be more enjoyable if they put obsticals and mines on the track. My GF watches NASCAR and I told just let me know when there is an accident and I'll watch that part.

At 190 mph bump drafting and trying to avoid other cars when the spin out. I like watching it much better on TV than F1 which doesn't translate well on TV..unlike NASCAR.

This doesn't happen enough for me to enjoy it. If they made a more interesting track and threw in some crazy obstacles and people started dying, then maybe I would watch more. Of course that would be illegal but ;)

LOL you should have watched the Daytona 500 yesterday, there was plenty of bumping (some of it on purpose) and wrecks along with some damn good driving. You have cars going 190 mph just inches away from each other taking the corners 3 wide.It was pretty hairy at times.

I was driving from New Orleans to Toronto once and stopped in Tenessee right after a Nascar race, It was Cracker Barrel meets Deliverance, pretty damn scary.

You really have to go back to the 50's in order to find cars that were similar to what was in the showroom. Even as early as the 60's NASCAR Grand National (Now known as Nextel Cup racing" vehicles were space frame construction and each panel was hand made for each car.

To answer your question, I watch nearly every Cup race as it is. Daytona was good, but the really exciting race was the Busch race on Saturday. The last several laps was nine cars in a pack 3 wide by 3 deep and no one could get ahead, they were neck and neck for several laps. I was holding my breath to see who would break away or crash. Damn good racing and driving!
