there is no "right" in the consititution to drive. theres no "right" in the constitution to have a cell phone. They are both PRIVILAGES that are afforded to us because people havent abused them to a point where someone got fed up and said we need a law to tell people what their right are because they are too stupid to figure out how to do it safely.

I don't know whether I'd support it. I talk on the cell phone when driving maybe........ once or twice a month. It wouldn't bother me too much if such a law were passed, and I know for sure it would prevent plenty of idiots from making trouble on the roads.

But anyway, at the VERY LEAST, make a law saying females under the age of 20 cannot talk on their cellphone while driving :p

Already banned here in the UK and people who do it face huge penalties. Anyone who drives a car with a phone in their hand is scum, no better than drunk drivers.

Exactly. It's been proven (no, I don't have links) that operating a cell phone is as bad or worse than driving drunk. Yeah, some are worse than others, but just because a small majority can manage it doesn't mean it should be legal.

In fact, that's one of the dumbest reasons I can think of to justify it... out-classed in stupidity only by the "it's my right" argument.

Aye. In my opinion anyone who needs to talk on a phone while driving can easily do so using a headset or hands-free kit and keep most, if not all of their concentration on the road where it belongs.

Although your poll is bad, I would support a ban. People cannot drive to begin with never mind letting them blab on their cell phones at the same time...

Everyone in favor of cell phone bans in cars must also be in favor of banning car radios and talking to passengers. Those are just as dangerous...

Those other activities also do not require committing one appendage to the activity. A cellphone permanently removes one hand's availability from operating the vehicle. The others do not, or do so only briefly.

This is exactly why most people that are for the ban also qualify their response with "unless a hands-free kit is used". It's still a distraction, but it's far less of one.

Sorry, equating using a cell phone to talking with a passenger or using a radio is not analogous.
