That'd be sweet if one of the features was one free pass to ban any member for a month. I'd probably pay the $50 anyway. Less than 3 hours of work will pay for a year of saving money at Hot Deals and having any question I could ever come up with answered.

I will not pay a penny to any internet site, period!

Especially a internet forum.

Everyone is free to go somewhere else, including me. This place is not like it was in 2000.

That's about it.
 
Anything I use often I am willing to pay for. I would gladly pay $50+ per year to keep the forums the way they are right now (no added features). No ads and 1000 PMs is worth the cost alone.

btw, rossman, the poll seems to accurately reflect the %age of people that are subscribers now no?

i think if you did go thru with it, enough people would sign up for it to be worth your while.
 
I voted no because I don't have faith in them. They promised all these new features and none of that happened. How the heck can we trust them if we give them even more money? I could actually care less about real time chat because I just use aol, yahoo, etc. All I really care about is the pm limit which I use for trading, etc.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say anandtech is ditching the subscriber server because they may be having a hard time attracting companies to advertise when the ads are not actually getting viewed by everyone on the forums like they were before the subscriber service was implemented. Pretty stupid really because everyone hates ads, etc. and I would think the subscriber server would be making more money than the ads anyways.

they dangled the carrot for 2 years and not one message was given about any delay or anyhting. looking back it was convient for them that they never detailed what features they were gonna provide so they wouldnt have to deny them.
 
less than 10% of the people (if you can call them that) are subs, meaning that there will not be that much of a difference.

I would only pay $1/month for this extra features... i don't think the upside of subscription is worth more than that.
 
The only current subscriber feature I find appealing is the full text search, and creativity and memory find their way around that generally.
The higher PM limit would be nice, but not worth any charge afaic; I do have email.

On a seperate note, iirc, the proposed price is actually $20/year more than the current price. what's the deal with that?

Unfortunately for the online world, this is an easy fix. Chargebacks == evil, and there's pretty much NOTHING that can be done about it from the webmaster's view.

no. There is nothing inherent in the forums which will make me stay here. A forums is as good as its members and if the members move out, there will be no reason to stick on.
 
How much does it cost for Anand to maintain these extra Subsciber-Only Servers? Maybe they're doing away with subscriptions because the number of subscribers is insignificant to the amount of money they spend on the extra servers.
