Poll: Would you move to another state within two months' time?

Could you pick up everything and move to another state within two months' time to start a new job there? Or do you have too many ties and responsibilities holding you down? Suppose you currently have no friends in the new state.

I had an opportunity to move to Seattle, WA, to work there, but I turned it down because I felt I had too much tying me down to CA, even though I am single. That was a month ago, and I'm kicking myself already.

Please answer the poll.

I am 26, single, with no kids, and I rent an apartment. I could pick up and move to a new state next week if my dream job was offered to me.

I'm single, and could easily move, but I love NH too much, and the rest of the country gets too hot in the summer (generally). Also, the lack of a sales or income tax, or a lot of the nanny state laws most people in other states take for granted is even more reason to stay...

Nope. My family is in New Jersey, my wife's family is in New Jersey, and I'll be in New Jersey for the forseeable future.

I have done it a number of times. Hometown -> Berkeley. Berkeley -> Austin. Austin -> Philly. Philly -> Boston. Every time has been heart wrenchingly difficult (save for the first and last moves). I has definitely taken its toll.

can you still take the job up in seattle?

Depends just how great this new job offer was.

If it was double what I make now, then sure we would. If just a small increase and the company would pay for us to move and things like that, then maybe but probably not.

my husband accepted a job right after new years 16 years ago and we were moved 2 states away a month later.. into a rental house for 5 months, while we sold the one back home and found a new one here, but yeah, packed, moved, house on the market, 2 of us, 2 kids and a cat. 🙂 new company paid our rent here while we were doing the selling/buying house thing and moved us the first time, we couldn't have done it that fast otherwise.

no i wouldn't. sure it would depend on the job and the money, if it was a LOT of money i would consider moving for a few years then coming back, or if it was a job i could use to get another job down the line back in cali then i would, but if the money was not that much better (say i am making 40k a year and they offer 80k) i would not go, or if it would be permenant. even being single with no one attatched to here other then friends and fam i would not go.

I've moved out of state twice for job opportunities to places far away that I had never been before, when I was 20 and again when I was 22.

Two of the best decisions I ever made.

Not a concern if I am living in a state and offered to move to another state within a given period of time when the opportunity really meets my expectations regardless of circumstances, indeed.. Not that I am not tied on anything but hopes about upcoming uncertain journey at a different place within a new situation.

🙂 ... thought..

You betcha. As my father-in-law used to say, "There ain't no hooks in my ass keeping me here"...A job brought me to Kahleeforneeya, a job can certainly take me away as well, and once I'm through with school (in about 2 yrs) we plan to leave anyway...BUT, it's gotta be a decent job, in someplace I'd like to live...Western Oregon, Western Washington, Hawaii, maybe even Cody, Wyoming...Just about any place other than those, would have to be a KILLER job to get me to move.

From the poll, it looks like many of you would move with little hesitation. I wonder how many of you are under 25 and just renting an apartment? When you get older, there is a bit more fear/apprehension about moving to new places.
