Poll: Would you be willing to run Furmark for 12 hours..

You want to test your OC. not kill your card.

2hrs of Crysis should be more than enough to test OC.

Personally, I wouldn't consider my machine stable unless I was confident it could run any program for any amount of time. I'd consider the card defective if Furmark could kill it at stock settings.

They're not but they stay at about 70C during Crysis and about 75-80C in Furmark (renamed) with about 17C ambient.

I wouldn't run 12hours of 3DMark for no reason though (I used to check stability by letting 3DMark loop over night but the last card I did that was for my 8800GTS 640)...like you said, Crysis is a good test of stability. I say if the card is fine with a couple of loops of 3DMark, furmark, and a couple of hours of gaming...it's stable.

Here's a quote right from thermalright.

In our lab tests we have discovered that when running Furmark to test for temperature, it tends to show results that would never be achieved in any circumstances (under normal running or overclocking). Running Furmark is highly risky therefore we do not recommend running this program for tests. If you ask me ATiTools for 10-15mins followed by 2hrs of Crysis is more than enough without over stressing a card.

I'm not entirely convinced. I'm more inclined to believe that companies just don't want to admit that their factory OC cards or their cooling devices need to be re-evaluated for what they can and can not handle.

While no current game makes a card's temperatures run as high as Furmark's, I don't see any reason to think there never will be. What if a game happens to have a certain kind of special effect that does the same thing as the furmark test does?

Furmark+ 2X 295 = space heater. I've run the OCCT PSU test for 4 hours and I think that's enough.

I can definitely see this breaking something. It's probably similar to loading a truck to 115% capacity and then driving up a 10% grade in lower gear with the RPM at redline for an hour. :laugh:

im not volt modding my 4830, yet. However, Furmark does cause video to die if i OC past 720MHz, although I can even use 730-ish MHz and still be ok in-game. I'd be rather scared of running furmark for long if i did volt mod my card though. I would have to find a better cooler first...

Running Furmark for 12 hours is the equivalent of gaming for 12 hours straight, so who on earth does that? I'm only gaming one hour max, so 12 h stress test doesn't help me at all. One hour of Furmark stable is enough for me, then games all the way. I must say that although Furmark heat the GPU like hell, it's not that stressful for vmem, so even if I was to pass the 12 h test, I would probably still not feel totally stable with it.

I've done 1 hour at the extreme burning mode, or whatever it was called. Hottest it got was 70ºC. I don't need more proofing than that.

Running one of the CUDA-enabled distributed computing projects will do something similar, definitely heats up GPUs more than 3d gaming.

I'm with Thermalright on Furmark and personally never seen a program that heats up GPU's -- especially with higher resolutions and with AA.

For the folding guys can you post your GPU temps THEN try furmark for an hour to compare? It's like OCCT/Prime95 vs. Linpack. The latter will heat the CPU a good 10 degrees hotter! My peak GPU temps (295) were 91C after four hours on the fur clock. :Q

First of all, FurMark is dumb. What real world app does that to a GPU?

Second of all, my GPU doesn't give a fark. It's got a WB strapped to it. I've yet to see it hit the 50º C mark under any circumstance.

yea i actually left it @ 705/1762/1040 for like 20 hrs lol temps hit 88c lol
