if you're great at one thing, you can make a lot more money than someone who is just ok in everything else.
just look at all the athletes, actors, etc.
great at what they do, dumb as an ass at everything else (shaq, jessica simpson).

I'd love to be great at medicine (without working, of course, I'm assuming that's what you're implying). I would tolerate being average at everything else.

I guess if you are rich enough, then it doesn't matter if you are bad in bed.

bad = poor performance

Great at one thing. In my experiences, it's the single way to be seen as especially noteworthy and significant.

Great at two things (Math and Science). I suck at everything not included in that (Social Sciences).

Yeah, I've definately rather be the best at one thing than just good in everything. Almost no one has ever become famous or got themselves in the history books by being only slightly better than average in their given field.

It depends on how far that "suck at everything else" goes. Suppose you were great at a sport and made millions in professional sports. Yet if you suck at friendship and relationships you'll be alone and miserable for your whole life. I'd choose just about any option rather than being alone and miserable for life.

And do we get to choose what we are great at? What if you were given the "gift" of being the highest bowling ball stacker in the world. Sure you'll get some fame from TV by beating that other guy's 7 ball record. But really it'll do you no good.

If I weren't better than most of my peers at playing the piano, I figure I would be ultimately worthless. You have NO idea how much women love a music man (specifically my wife)!

Well, I don't have a goal or need to be in history books, I prefer to be a well-balanced, well-rounded individual. If it's your goal to be remembered, then yes, you've got to be unique.

I guess I'm weird though, I'm more focused on enjoying life / raising family, developing relationships, than trying to get into a book =)

true survivors are well-rounded, able to adapt. When the government collapses, and anarchy abounds, I'll be alright!
