I dont hate Sony, but the only Sony thing I have in my house is my MZ-N505 minidisc player (which I bought 3 weeks ago)

many many sony products are really crappy. lots of their DVD players have died due to manufacturing/design flaws. their speakers pretty much suck. the ES line is nice but expensive. the FD trinitrons are very nice though. also expensive.

They make both good stuff and garbage -- you need to do your homework item-by-item and not just trust (or hate) the brand.

I generally like Sony, but I will buy other brands.

My dad's Sony tv was left turned on for about 16 hours a day for more than 12 years. It still looks good.

A friend from work swears by Sony and I personally haven't had any problems with their stuff, although it is expensive. I had a Sony boombox that lasted for years without any problems and I just bought a Sony DVD/CDRW combo drive for my computer that's been working great so far.

I have a Sony Laptop, car stereo, DVD-Changer, and home stereo. I've been pleased with all of them, but have no particular loyalty. Sony seems to have some great products, but so do other companies. I feel no need to claim "loyalty" only to end up with a product that is almost what I want.

I picked the last option, which is usually not sony. In fact, I can't think of any electronics I've bought recently that were from them.
