Reading another thread, and from my own personal view, I was wondering how many people here always buy Sony/never buy Sony/don't care.

Personally I just hate Sony and will not use my own money to buy Sony stuff, if someone else buys, that's fine, but my money goes elsewhere.

Yes, if they provide a good product at a good price. And for some consumer electronics they do.

Their ES series of SACD players is very nice.

I have a Sony TV and a Playstation 2, but I don't feel any particular need to stick to the brand for future purchases.

after weeks of research i just bought a sony dcr-trv19.

it got good reviews and though it was more expensive, we've always had good experience with sony and my sister-in-law's rival camcorder just broke after less than a year.

I've had mixed experiences -- a bad VHS HiFi deck, a good boombox, good receiver, and I'm happy with my new sony DVD player.

They make both good stuff and garbage -- you need to do your homework item-by-item and not just trust (or hate) the brand.

It is pretty funny that Sony is somewhat considered as junk in Japan (kind of like Emerson here)...

I have been pretty happy with my Sony electronis buys though (DSC-F707, DSC-S50 and DSC-U20 digital cams and TRV22 camcorder)...I did buy one of these Sony mini home theater systems from Crutchfield about two years ago and it was pretty cheap quality...immediately returned it...

the pictures from the 5.0 megapixel F707 are very impressive and I wouldn't consider any other camera right now...

Only thing Sony I've ever owned are car stereos. Had one several years ago and have one now (that plays MP3 CDs). Otherwise, I've found their stuff to be way overpriced.

I have ALWAYS found a better deal with another brand. Back in the day I searched for portable stereos and portable CD players. I found a better deal with Panasonic. I've looked at Sony digi-cams, but always found a better deal with Fuji. Monitors -> Viewsonic.

The one item that I did purchase from BB that is a Sony is an in-dash CD player from 1999. I bought it because Best Buy offered 10% off if you buy a Sony component and something else. So I bought a Sony deck and a pair of $10 speakers.

The radio has been OK, but it likes to overheat and the volume knob doesn't work well anymore. Otherwise it has been a really good radio though.

I buy whatever is best for whatever category. I did just get a sony discman though. 40 hours on 2AA batteries is kickass.

Normally, no. Their prices seem to always be higher than similar products by other vendors. That being said, however, I bought a Sony sony dcr-trv27 Mini DV camera last year and I love it. I have some coworkers who own cameras by Sony and they all had good things to say. So, generally, I go by price/options ratios and compare them to reviews I've read or heard.

<Very first Transistor radio was a SONY. Got it in Japan in 1962 for my 5th birthday.

Sony is number one in personal stereos/cd players/tape players.

Their features are number one on camcorders. (but Canon still makes a better CCD)

They have excellent monitors and TVs... If you hate Sony, you need to seek professional help.

COBY, on the other hand sucks. They made a logo that looks like Sony and have an extremely cheap product. I bought a pair of their headphones and had to return them 3 times because they kept breaking. After the 4th time, I kept them and vowed to tell people what crap they sell....so there ya go.

Yes. They may be overpriced but they do still offer some solid stuff (at least in the price ranges I am looking at). In Canada they have lots of sony stores so that would be perhaps why I'm biased (If I am). my receiver is sony. My speakers are not. I would be unlikely to ever buy a sony tv because they are so damn expensive.

Agreed... Most of their stuff is overpriced, and some is total crap.

But if something is decent quality and decent priced (ie: Best bang for my buck) then I'll get it.

I own a Sony TV, that's where I would buy Sony.

Love the Wega, I've had two of them (a 20" and a 27").

Ah, bullsh|t. Let's hear the competition that can beat the F717 at the same price? Same with camcorders. They've got that market down cold.

Everything else, I'll compare specs against price and buy the best bang for the buck. If that happens to be Sony, fine! I ain't gonna cut off my nose to spite my face like half the numb nuts in this thread!
