POLL: Windows Vista SP1 bug fix and performance poll

I'm sure most of you have it installed by now...heh.

Ran it for a month - now it is uninstalled awaiting reincarnation via WU.

The only thing I would complain about is transferring files on Vista and I believe it is fixed with SP1. I never had any benchmarks of before and after but it is faster than before.

Hasn't fixed any of my problems, and my folder views might even be worse than before. No game breaking changes, but nothing really fixed for me either.

Isn't SP1 only in a Beta state?

My main issues with the OS at this point are poor SATA performance and an overall sense of bloat.

The RTM is out now it turns out that the last beta was what they chose to be the RTM.

When a beta is banged on for a given period of time and no show stopping bugs are found, it becomes RTM pretty easily 😉

The last RC (maybe the last two RCs, can't remember) didn't have a time bomb, so a rebuild would not be necessary for it to become the RTM build.

i just installed vista with an integrated service pack 1 DVD and am glad i did. nice improvement for my system. file system is definately faster and overall performance i better.

So far I'm glad I installed the RC REFRESH 2 of the SP1. It gives me enough fixes that I'm at least willing to give Vista a serious TRY now for frequent usage.

There still seem to be lots of annoyances / deficiencies in things that should be BETTER about Vista, but at least the stability / security is improved to the point where it may be usable without great disaster / frustration risk as a daily event.

Haven't installed it yet, would prefer to see it on WU before I do since everything works at the moment. File copy speed, and network copy speeds, are my biggest concerns at the moment, and they are fairly minor.

I may skip service pack 1 and wait until service pack 2 comes out.

And why would you do that....?

I got the SP1 by some "divine mercy" through Windows Update last Thursday and it made my system visibly more responsive.

Don't get frightened by some articles written by people who have no first hand experience - remember, the press loves "doom and gloom". 😉

EDIT: I just glanced through the computerworld article - what scared you so much about SP1...?
