Ok...I know the diff, but Here goes...

If a guy has a 1ghz CPU and 768 of cas2 PC-133,
and a GeForce2 GTS DDR,
will he be gaming with best of them??

Or is there still a good reason to stay with 98se??

I'm looking for stability AND playability.

Is there anything I am missing here??

I think that most of the new games run just fine on W2K...right?

I usually stay with the newer games...I love the graphics.. :)

Take win2k. I haven't noticed any difference in Counterstrike between Win 98SE and Win2k with my PIII 700, 256 MB RAM, and TNT2 Ultra.

With 768MB of RAM, Win98 would be a complete waste. I would go with Win2K as well.

I have 640 MBs of RAM at home.. as a test about a week ago i loaded ever program i could think of:

Unreal Tournament, Need for Speed 5, Porsche Unleashed, Grand Theft Auto 2, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, FrontPage, Outlook, Outlook Express, about 20 Internet Explorer Windows, MadOnion 3dMark 2001, SiSoft Sandra, etc..

I found that even with all these programs running, I was only using about 370 MBs of RAM ...

anything more than 512 definately seems to be a waste.

If your programs / hardware are all compatible with Win2k use that instead of 98SE. The stability improvement is much greater than whatever multimedia performance you may lose.

i don't think you lose any multimedia performance. the performance hit with nvidia's drivers is very small, and in some cases w2k is faster than 98. it's great being able to leave ur computer running all day long and knowing that it won't crash at all. 2k is rock solid.

Hi Y'all,
I also say Win2k, however if you would like to dual-boot try 98lite. It is almost as stable as win2k and it does game better. While the difference may be small, with powerstrip or softFSB you will get better performance in 98lite, even if the difference is small with TNT, there still is a difference. Good luck and keep pushing the envelope.
As Always,
D
