good reason for why not now... but what about when the technology and methods become proven ... prices may decrease then... would you buy one at the same cost ?Originally posted by: MercenaryForHire

I don't think it's that simple. It really depends on where you live. Here in California, if you buy a hybrid, yes, you will pay more OTD than an equivalent car without hybrid technology. However, you get tax breaks, you spend less on gasoline, and you are allowed to drive in the carpool lane with a solo driver. All those things (especially the carpool thing here in L.A.) really make a hybrid quite an attractive option.
That being said, my next car (late next year) will in all likelihood NOT be a hybrid. 😛
Absolutely. At current prices, no way in hell. Add "Whenever it makes financial sense" to the poll, or something like that. 😛would you buy one at the same cost ?

Yeah, but you live in the Hippie State. 😛

Actually, I'd like to see something along the lines of the concept Eclipse mitsu had circulating around the car shows last year. Yes, it was ugly, but the idea was great. They used a traditional internal combustion engine paired to four electric motors (one per wheel). The electric motors would engage during launch and during gearshifts to remove shift lag and provide instant torque at minimal RPM for quick launches. Sounded like a great idea (not that I'd get to use it much here in L.A.)

Not for a while. I would rather go diesel, for now.

GM put rear-wheel electric motors on a Z71 at one point, IIRC, but that was a purely power increasing measure. I've wondered about the feasability of such a design for hybrids myself.
