My JVC car CD/Receiver detachable faceplate fell out of my jacket and landed in a puddle of rain water. It was in a rectangular plastic case, so it didn't get muddy, but it was pretty much submerged in water for 4 hours before I discovered it missing from my jacket.
Drained it and shook it out. I tried to open it but the screws were smaller than even the micro tool set that I have. I blew all the crevices out with canned air several times, and then let it sit face down on my bathroom counter underneath the overhead heat lamp all night. Blew it out again this morning and no water came out. Quite a few small bits of dirt/grass did come out though.
As far as I can tell the faceplate does not have any moving parts. It's only 7 months old.
