Mapquest needs to find a way to get into the GPS market. I'm not sure if they did so already, but make some mapping software for GPS.

Maybe not standard, but as an option definitely like anything else that's come in over the years, e.g. A/C, power locks/windows, CD players--even my sister's Explorer doesn't come with a CD player as standard.

Once costs go down enough and new gens are made, Mapquest will be done for..

It will eventually become standard.
I believe Mapquest will adapt and offer GPS software & updates. Of course if they don't adapt, they will loose a chunk of their hits, but not all, since I know many people will still want to look at a map on a full sized screen before going someplace they haven't been before.

Given that a lot of vehicles still do not come with a CD player, GPS in every vehicle is a long, long way off. One of the primary problems is that people will not know how to utilize something like GPS mapping on a regular basis. There is currently no foolproof way to interface with a map and a GPS that anyone can figure out in 2 minutes. That type of thing is many levels above the basic operating the wipers and lights on a car now.

I don't think so. Of course, I also have no interest in having GPS in my car, and certainly don't want to pay for something I don't want.
