Will Al Gore add a Nobel Peace Prize to his Oscar and Emmy honors?


Film and TV projects associated with Al Gore have won two Oscars and an Emmy award.

"An Inconvenient Truth," a documentary featuring the former vice president captured two Academy Awards in February. The film focuses on Gore and his worldwide travels to educate the public about the severity of global warming.

Last month Gore picked up an Emmy -- the highest award in television -- for "Current TV," which he co-created. The show describes itself as a global television network that gives its viewers the opportunity to create and influence its programming.

On Friday, Gore finds out if he's the winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

Is there enough Hillary haters that the Dems feel they have to do a Gore/Obama ticket?

If Gore wins and does throw his hat in the ring that would most likely be the case.

Where will the money come from though?

Don't underestimate the Gore kool-aid sippers. I don't think he could get $100 mil but I think he could easily put away 50 to 60 mil which would be enough to "do battle".

Last I saw he had something like 14 or 16% support and he isn't even running.

why not, the Nobel Peace prize is more a popularity contest anymore. It used to mean something but fell out significantly a while back. Now its a method to either attack someone idirectly or reward someone with lots of face time.

Rarely does it go for people dieing for a cause.... if it were they would find many many nominations across Africa or China and we know for damn sure china would not stand for any nominations that make them look bad.

Gore doesn't deserve it at all. It would make the reward totally bogus if he got it.

I'm glad Gore is finally getting some recognition for all the work he's done on our behalf for so many years. I'm not sure if I exactly get how his work on Global Warming relates to peace though.

To me, the Gore Global warming thing is much like Columbus discovering the new World.
Face the facts, other people from the old world had made the discovery countless times and the New World was already peopled by millions. But still Columbus is the one who set in motion the uniting of the continents and the various voyages of discovery. Gore is in somewhat the same boat. The science he is touting is neither perfect, state of the arts, but Gore has been a pioneer in raising awareness.

We have a Columbus day celebrated all of the world and its incidentally today, we can likewise give Gore his prize and give credit where credit is due.

Columbus took a chance and look at the hell of a mess we are in today is another way to look at it.

That's a pretty piss poor spin on it. Anyone can be nominated for the prize. Lush Limbaugh never stood a chance. Gore's still considered as in the running as of 24 hours before it's announced.

No, I was asking where are the people like MLK jr. who really deserve an award like this. I am sure they are out there, but what these type of people do is rarely as glorified as when a hollywood type or political bozo with big ambition set out to do something "good." I have always seen Gore's seizure of the whole GW thing as a way for Gore to make himself over. I remember the days when people thought he was a cold fish with a some smarts and nothing more. He found himself a nice little non-profit to cash in on (like many of the millions of other non-profits) and a way to turn himself into a hero instead of a has-been (or never-was perhaps).
