Poll: Why does name brand food taste better than generic?

Can anyone explain this? I am sitting here eating some Planters peanuts.. they are just delicious.. I grabbed a jar of the same type of "Store brand" peanuts that I bought last week, and they don't taste as good.. They are both peanuts.. but the Planters taste better? I have noticed this with frozen veggies as well, name brands taste better than generics.. Why is this? Is it all in my head? Or do they use better quality ingredients with the name brand items?

I'll make this a poll as well!

For somethings I don't think it makes it difference, like rice, bread, etc. On the other hand, store brand soda is nasty.

Every company has its own way of making something, and usually the name brands do something differently to make them stand out (and taste "better&quot😉. I'd guess that "something" is a closly guarded secret.

yes, name brands test their products. they spend alot of money in lab tests and consumer trials.
they constantly tinker with the taste in the lab to find the right market niche that will separate their product from the competition. store brands are bland knock-offs that are
minimally evaluated if at all.

the bigger companies probabbly have better engineers that find cheaper ways to make the food taste better. the generic stuff probably has less additives that make it taste better, and the stuff that is used to make the generic food is probably not the same quality as name brand, because the generic companies need to keep cost down.......

Why do McDonald's fries taste better? It's because there's meat flavoring in the grease. Hey, maybe there's meat flavoring in all the name brand products.

er, store brand doesnt mean generic. store brand is just that. you have
major label (del monte, general mills)
store brand (janet lee, brookshires)
generic (white label with black letters)

you dont usually find generic foods at major grocciers. they are in places where more low income people shop. they have just a plain label and no fancy packaging. keeps the cost down.
just a heads up 🙂

Maybe you just acquired taste for the major brand and then decided to try the store brand, but might not necessarily taste bad, just different.
