Why do a lot of people not like adapted's easy cd creator 4. I use it exclusively and it's great.

You can't get EZ CD Creator for free either.

For people who don't have special burning needs (like me), EZCD 4 is fine. I've never tried Nero but I couldn't imagine it getting much simpler than EZCD's drag-and-drop interface. The extra $50 for Nero doesn't seem worth it, unless you want to hack it. In that case, it wouldn't seem logical to promote Nero if you don't want to pay for it.

I use ECDC for archiving and it is great. But for duping disks there is better like CloneCD, and for burning the popular Bin/Cue image format FireBurner, and for creating same CDRWin. I have avoided Nero because it should not be installed with DirectCD. Each have there strengths and weaknesses. Use what works for you and don't worry about other people.

EZCD Did a wonderful job of messing up my Windows2k installation so bad that I had to reinstall. After removing the program and registry entries, it's infection lived on. I do like the EZ Coaster Creator line.. about 20% of the time that's what it was. Now that Nero is finally supported with my burner, why use anything else.. except CloneCD for copying and Fireburner for Bin/Cue :)

EZCD has poor hardware support, particularly when it comes to audio extraction. Even if you download and install all the patches which are supposed to fix compatability problems, it still doesn't work. It doesn't correctly recognise limitations of recorders (even when bundled with them!) - e.g. doesn't realise that Yamaha recorders can't record at 2x, but tries anyway.

It's multisession support is weak - there is no option to synchronise with your HD when importing a previous session, an essential component of making incremental backups.

It has bad default settings. e.g. Default data recording mode is Mode2/XA (Urrgh!)

It is buggy - I regularly get 'illegal operation' error messages on both NT4 and Win2k. It doesn't copy audio CDs correctly (it inserts clicks between tracks - this is not a feature of recording in DAO or the audio extraction).

Audio support is weak - there is no option for inserting gaps between tracks when burning in DAO mode. It doesn't warn you of corrupted mp3 files, nor attempts to repair them - instead it just cuts off the bit after the corruption. No index support.

Annoying warnings - no way of disabling unnecessary warnings, e.g. when burning onto CDRW

Lack of advanced features - e.g. overburning support, or reading CDs with bad sectors

I use Nero for data CDs, although far from perfect, it is considerably more powerful and more stable than EZCD creator.

For audio, I use Feurio, which while it approaches perfection, is not quite there yet.

Adaptec went out and bought WinonCD. That tells how much confidence they have in EZCD. They will eventually integrate WinonCD with EZCD and will come up with something decent. But for the time being Nero is the one.
