there are plenty of qualified/capable people of all stripes, certainly far more so than the Orange Menace. i believe politics should represent the people at all levels and be as diverse as our nation and i hope the days of two older white dudes in the WH are over soon.

Sometimes when race is up front in the discussion (anywhere, not just here) I think of Alan Watts remark about "the difficult and thorny issue of racism." Maybe he did a talk on it, I'd love to hear that one. But I'm not aware of him "tackling" racism. I guess if you want subtle insightful treatment of America's predicament vis a vis racism you look elsewhere. Of course, there's a lot, and probably most of it from people of color, who you might say have more skin in the game.

It's not even racist or sexist as there's no way you can possibly disentangle the politics of the selection from what makes someone 'qualified'. Does qualified mean 'person most capable to serve as VP and potentially president'? Sure! You have to win the election first though, so qualified also means 'will help me win'.
