What do you care what other people do for recreation? It's not hurting anyone. No one's forcing you to use it.

I said decriminalize it. If people want to use it, let them, but stop giving people incentive to use/sell it, and stop overcrowding our prisons with bullshit arrests.

I never have, never will, and wish to hell the US would decriminalize it so people would stop using it. I feel badly that many people feel the need to get high to "experience life", and pissed that they choose that option instead of making their life better in other ways.

how do you feel about people who drink alcohol recreationally?

yes but it's been like over 8 years since i last did, and i don't really plan on doing it. i did it kind of regularly for a few years around college then just stopped. after i stopped i realized how much of an effect it had on me, that i didn't know about when i was on it regularly.

then i did it about 1-2 years later w/some friends and none of us had done it in years. i was not a fan of how it felt that time so i just don't want to do it anymore.

I gave weed a chance numerous times but every time all it makes me want to do is go home and sleep.

I prefer cocaine.

As a kid, I had enough going on in my life that it never crossed my mind.

As an adult, I could definitely see the appeal of getting stoned out of my skull.

Never have, likely never will. But man, spend all your childhood wanting to grow up, then once you get there you're like, "WTF is this shit?"

How about a decrease in self-righteous pro-legalization folks telling the rest of us "spoon-fed" law-abiding citizen how much we're missing out?

Stopped clocks, those guys are. Bet most of them couldn't even spell "cancer" if they didn't equate legalization with cheap, decent-quality, easy-to-obtain weed.

(Yes, yes, I know, YOU are a completely functional recreational user. YOU'RE not an addict. YOU have never suffered any ill effects and your coworkers NEVER SUSPECT you use.)

I don't use it at all. I'll be 31 in a few months and I haven't touched weed since I was 18. It was fun back in the day. I get random tests at work and it'd be kinda silly at this point in life for me to smoke. I have no problem with it though if someone chooses to smoke it. I really hate the ignorance that people show towards it even today.

Nope. No interest. Eff whether it's legal or not.

I got into drinking in the past two years, but even that interest has subsided. Something about seeing my mid-thirties friend completely drunk as shit, stumbling around on the street with slurred speech, as I escorted him part way home that turned me extra off.

To each their own though.

I find it so strange how different people here in my city (NYC) view pot vs. others. For example, my grown up sister-in-law from the midwest CRIED when I offered her a bong hit (it was a bonding moment gone very bad) and the in laws go on and on about how evil pot. Anecdotal, of course, but whenever I joke about my pot use (which is a $20 a week habit, not a $600 one), I get the weirdest and most uncomfortable looks in the midwest. Here in NYC, you can go to a random coworker's birthday party and find someone passing around a joint (or EVERY concert venue). It's just not a big deal -not everyone smokes but you can be at a 40 year old investment banker's housewarming party and the smell will be in the air. Harder drugs are taboo and done in bathrooms or alone, but pot doesn't have that taboo attached to it. While, in the midwest, casual alcoholism seems to be the coolest shit ever and EVERYONE seems to know a victim of drunk driving... I'm not judging from a moral high ground, I just find it peculiar.

Oh, and to the moral outrage here toward casual smokers - I guess that's to be expected of nerds (and a big reason this nerd doesn't enjoy nerd culture). I just come here for phone and gadget advice, the politics and morality here on ATOT represent a skewed judgmental cynicism that makes me think "VIRGIN," pre-columbine hormonal teen, or a combination of the two. It's funny because we're a forum of atheists with the moral values of the creepy religious right.

Sure I've tried it. Smoked it three times, and but I never really liked how it made me feel, so I haven't done it in years. I'm glad I tried it though, because it was an experience and at least I know.

I agree with that. Drug arrests are a huge problem. We'd save so much money as a country if we didn't stick so many people into prison for nonviolent drug crimes. The cost of enforcement, trial, imprisonment, rehabilitation, and the resultant loss of productivity when an ex-con is unable to find work and has to go on the dole for years afterward... it's staggering.
