It depends on how you define best gaming card.

Many of todays cards are the exact same thing (Nvidia's reference design, etc.).

A couple of years ago, it would have been Quantum 3D for the Obsidian X-24 (very powerful voodoo2 solution and it waas original, but $$). Right now,

I PERSONALLY think it would be Hercules (also know to have the best TNT2 Ultra "back in the day&quot. I think Asus makes very good video cards too.

Yea it completely depends on what you think is best.

It is not completely pointless. Best is best, thats all, it is the best combination of everything. It is not only absolutely highest FPS, as most of the people in this forum and every other think. I have not tried many cards myself, one can only decide which is best if he has tried all possible cards/chipsets.
My opinion that the best gaming card was Voodoo1. It was really a revolutionary improvement in picture quality over software rendering and also the power of that card at that time was more than enough for any game out at that time. (I remember when I saw my first racing game on Voodoo1, I was stunned - those shiny cars and everything was just amazing). Nowadays we do not really see such a nice jump upwards and I am sure we never will.
My vote goes for Voodoo1.

My little Western Digital Paradise Pipeline 64 2 megger made me feel like I was in the middle of the action when I was playing mine sweeper. The explosions almost made me jump out of my skin!
