Well, seeing how there's so little about local radio that's local anymore, It won't be a popular idea with the dullards raking in the money at the top.
Well, getting it past my PD isn't what I'm worried about. It's the owner, and more specifically his wife. They are very snotty uptight ulta-hyper-super conservatives. She is also the News Director and has sent the department to hell. I used to be ND, but I couldn't handle working 80 hour weeks with no days off for almost 6 months, all the while getting bitched at for not doing stories about their church, or the college that they graduated from.
She did a story about how great Fox News was. She also said on the air "If you're wondering how I got the job with the news... I've been sleeping with the boss for 45 years." She said it in a trying-to-be-sexy way that is disturbing for a 74 year old woman. :shudder:
Anyway, I heavily digress....
😀
And those fscking bastards at the FCC just fuxored up my air again, without giving a damn about the public opinion on the matter, that virtually every single comment they received was against consolidation. Commercial radio is crappier than it's ever been, and it's going to get worse still, before it gets better, IMO.
My opinion? It won't get better. How much local stuff is on your local TV channel? On mine it was only the news, even then national pop stories kept cutting into the air time.
And did they always play so G.D. many commercials? For example, they play seven to eight straight minutes of commercials before Loveline, which is stretched out another 5-6 minutes locally to add even more commercials to the show. It starts at 10:57, and ends at 1:03!
The largest commercial block we play (assuming that we didn't seriously mess up our timing
😛) is 3:00. You should hear Reds Baseball. They have literally 2 minutes of drunken commentary, then like 4 minutes of commercials.
We aren't local all of the time on our FM stations. We play satellite 20 hours a day. It sounds like crap, and they say "You're listening to Oldies Radio!". What a great way to trick people...
I'd rather just have people voice track if they don't want to pay to staff the damned station properly.
Do I sound bitter?
😉
