You are right, whole grain breads are better for you. The reason is because the contain all 3 parts of the wheat
1. Bran ? provides fibre, B vitamins, minerals, protein and other phytochemicals
2. Endosperm ? contains carbohydrates, proteins and small amounts of B vitamins
3. Germ ? packed with minerals, B vitamins, vitamin E and other phytochemicals
Enriched white breads have been processed so much that they have been stripped of all of their nutrients. thats why they add (enrich) bread with micro and macro nutrients.
Wheat bread or 100% wheat bread is no different in fact can be less healthy than white bread. when you get a chance read the ingredients in wheat and you will see stuff like molassas and brown sugar added to give it its color.
100% wheat bread is a misnomer. all bread made from wheat is 100% wheat.
