::poll:: which wheel? part 2 ~pic~

Lifer
ok so i finally found some light weight wheels after taking advice from this thread

they are more expensive, but i commute a lot and dont want heavy wheels to reduce my mileage to nothing. so here are my 2 choices:

SSR GT1 ~17lbs/wheel
and
Oz Superleggera ~18lbs/wheel

prices:
SSR 17x7.5 w/ 225/45/17 Bridgestone RE750 tires for $2100 shipped
SSR 18x7.5 w/ 225/45/17 Bridgestone RE750 tires for $2300 shipped :shocked::shocked:

Oz 17x8 w/ Toyo FZ4 tires for $ 1400
Oz 18x8 w/ Nitto 555 tires for $1890

all come w/ tires mounted and wheel balanced.
what do you guys think? the Oz is more reasonable, but i like the looks of the SSR more. if i do get the SSR i'll prolly stick to 17". which would be the best looking/best value? thanks

here are 2 pics on what they woould look like on a VW GTI

OZ superleggera

I love the OZs, as I had been looking at a 97-98 A4 for a while, but the SSRs are really nice too. Sometimes I prefer the 5-spoke look too.

It really comes down to how important the rims are to you, as the extra money could be spent upgrading other parts, and you'd still have a killer set of wheels.

all 4!! holy crap i would slap myself silly if i ever caught myself considering wheels that are $2100 each!!!

Can't go wrong with those OZ Superleggera's in 17" and silver.

I would get a different tire than those FZ4's though.

IMO? Pirelli PZero Nero M&S seem to be the hot ultra-high performance all-season tires right now. I've heard nothing but good things about them, both from people I know and from TireRack. I have a set on order right now for my WRX, but the size I need won't be in stock until the middle of next month.

My GF just bought a set of BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDWS for her '01 2.5RS (205/55/16, she loves the stock 6-spoke wheels so we had to stick with the stock tire size) for $400 mounted and balanced and full road hazard warranty from Costco. They get some mixed reviews from TireRack, but so far I think they a good looking tire, with a very quiet ride, that has good stiff sidewalls and great handling wet and dry.

thanks vic. im almost sure im gonna get the 18" OZ. no reason upgrading from 16" if i dont go all the way, right? ride will be harsh, but that is the price you pay for looking hot 😛. anyways, im riding on koni sport shocks now and are dampening adjustable. i'll just turn the dampening all the way to soft.

oh i emailed the guy asking what the hell is Nitto tires. he told me they are pretty good. here's what he had to say
The Superleggera would be 18x8. The Nitto tire is W speed rated (170mph) 300 treadwear, A temp, A Traction. I have them on my '04 Jetta and I had them on my old Eclipse for 2 years, and love them. The Pirelli P7000 is available for the same price as the Nitto tires, but they are much louder. The only other tire I would suggest is the Continental Extreme Contact. They would be an extra $60 for the set. They are all season and longer treadwear rating at 400.

what do u guys think? should i stick with the Nitto's or get the Pirelli?
here're some user reviews on the Nitto 555's nitto 555

Have you considered the BBS RX II? Those look great on the GTI too.

i was lookin at the BBS. sexay as hell. but too much for my budget. all BBS wheels are $400+ per wheel. i'd have to take out a loan to pay for that

You need quite a bit of power to make 18" work, otherwise, you're just slowing down your car. On a car the size of the GTI, I personally think the 17" look better overall. The 18" dominate the profile of the vehicle.

Have you considered some A048's? 🙂

woah!!!! what in Vishnu's name is that!! haha those would be cool and all...but i need something i can drive in the snow in (snows here in NJ, ya know)

actually the OZ 18" only weighs 18.1 lbs....thats a lot less than most 17" wheels. main reason why i started considering them in the first place...cuz of their weight...or lack thereof 😛

so it wont take that much power to make *those* 18's work

u think these wheels dominate the profile of the vehicle? those are 18's btw
