POLL: Which truck to buy?

I'm going to be in the market for a truck in the near future. I've got it narrowed down somewhat and would like opinions.

Fuel Economy is somewhat important, so I would also like the most economical if possible... in real world usage the Chev 5.3 seems to edge out the other contestants, but I'd like feedback. NOTE: Price is somewhat of a consideration, so 3/4-1T diesels are not in the running... even though I'd love a new Duramax and the fuel economy of a diesel but the extra initial $$$ outlay wouldn't make up for the savings.

Truck MUST be 4X4 and either an extended or crew cab and will be a mixture of city/highway driving.

PS - The only Chev/GM I am really interested in is the Avalanche... I used to think they were awful looking but the more I've seen them without the tacky plastic cladding the more I like them. I think they are way nicer than their 1/2 pick ups, so if I get a Chev that's what it would be.

Who? Me? Absolutely not! I just don't think their new diesel is proven enough yet.

I think the New F150 espescially is a fine ride.

I have a Dodge Quad Cab. It's a great truck. I do like the look of the new Fords too.

All the trucks you have listed are great in their own respect...except the Nissan😉

AFAIK, the Heritage is only available with a V6 - 5 speed combo.
Nope. Unless its different in the US. In Canada, you can get them with the 5.4 etc...

Maybe you're thinking that if you WANT a 6cyl 5 spd, you have to get a Heritage which is true since they don't put them in the new F150... but it is still available with an 8. AFAIK, if you get the 4x4 you have to get an 8 in it.

Damn, must be someone else with a snake icon 🙂

I'd go for the all new 04 F150, followed by the Hemi Ram. (My friend has a Ram V8, non Hemi, but it's a really sweet ride. He himself said he loves the new F150 though)

I got to ride in a brand new Ford Pick up last nite. It was dark, I don't know the exact model but the guy told me it was a diesel and had 350 hp. He's a building inspector, i needed his input on a site 😀

If the diesel is that refined, the normal Triton must be great.

The interior was luxurious with leather and all.. Ford trucks are nice ! 43 grand i think he said :Q

you are correct sir. Their website says V6 with a 5 speed but V8 is an option.

I like everything about my Hemi Dodge, it's got a great ride and handles sweet. I can't compare it to the new Ford or Nissan because I haven't driven those, but before you make up your mind I would at least test drive a Dodge.

I also like the looks of the Avalanche and the Chevy is probably a little more fuel efficient, but isn't it a lot more expensive ?

Nah, quite comparable actually.

The 6.0 has 325hp iirc, unless his truck is modded.

I'd do a Ford myself. Next would be the Chev. I wont own a foriegn made pickup yet, I dont think they've proved themselves to be a work pickup. As for Dodges, they make decent trucks with great engines but in the past they've had suspension / tranny problems. So, I'd be leary there, although usually the problems manifested themselves in the higher torque lines of their trucks (Diesels).

Ford > Chevy = Dodge.

My .02 cents

Aside from that, theres alot of mods available for the 5.4 if you want some extra oomph on the tires. Dunno whats available for the other two manufacturers.

Meh... either or. Extended cab is about $1G cheaper than the crew. Dodge only comes with the crew. I'd probably lean towards just an extended unless the price is fantastic on the crew.

wait till atleast mid year if not the 05's and get the F-150 so they work all the new model blues out.

I don't like the idea of my back end folding down and open air getting in, I would never go avalanche.

The dodge 5.7 is a electrical nightmare under the hood and it's a shoehorn job to boot. Not to mention the 45RFE is crap.

What kind of milage are you getting out of your Hemi?

I personally am partial to the Ford. I have driven a '03 and loved it. I don't know anything about the chevy and only what I have read on the dodge, so my opinion is somewhat unbalanced.
