Almost certainly the Gigaworks. The two-way satellites in the Gigaworks system will give you much crisper treble than the single-driver affairs in the Z-5500. It's nigh-on impossible to make a 3" driver play well from ~130Hz-30Khz.

I have not heard the gigaworks, but I have listend to other Cambridge Soundworks products before, Even the cheap Cambridge sounds nice. Also the harder the material used in the tweeter the higher and more accurate the pitch, Gigaworks S750 uses very hard Tianium Tweeters.

You could get 10 guys saying the logitech are the best on earth but you might think they sound like crap. My advice would be buy both from a store like Futureshop or Best buy or something and listen to them both yourself and *you* decide which is better... especially if 'quality matters' Just return the other one.

I know that. Most (not all) of the opinions on this site are of the uneducated or brand loyal. So it can be tough to get honesty and good information. I have not been able to find a Store that has the Gigaworks S750, they are not as common as the Logitech Z5500. Hopefully there is someone who has heard them both and can give me an Idea of what they liked better. If the majority of those people felt they were the better sounding speaker then It probably is.

i've had 3 sets of megaworks and all sound great. since the gigaworks are an upgrade they sound better lol :)

also, extremetech did a review of the gigaworks sub and these high end satellite speakers. 1000 for that system. said it was the best. if i wasn't saving up to move i would do that :-D

Worth $175 more?

At $362 I would look into cheap receiver and speakers.

But when you go that route, you get un-needed extras that take away from what matters most- The speakers!

You did say cheap.

For gaming, probably not. For music, yes definitely a tweeter, any 1" freakin' tweeter puts you on another level musically. I don't really think you can do better for $350-400 for a 7.1 set like this though, you could pull off a 5.1 set like a Mission M32 set (1" tweeters, 3.5" midranges, 8" sub; same setup) for $200 and a receiver for about $200.

For just gaming it seems like a waste, but for music (even though you are essentially only using 2 satellites and the sub) it seems like a good idea. If you a music lover, this going the Gigaworks will tide you over longer before jumping for bookshelves and a receiver, but if you aren't very picky for your music and doubt you'll ever upgrade (or don't think you are a discerning listener) than the Logitechs might be a better idea, being more cost-effective.

I have the Logitech Z-5500 and I must say...THEY ARE INSANE! First off, the surround effects and the tweeters sound very nice. The subwoofer has really loud pounding bass and the HUD control is pretty handy. Overall, I'm too impressed. Goes great with a good Sound card for extra effects.

The speakers aren't actually made by Logitech. If you open them up, they're made by: Tang Band. This is probably why they sound so amazing, not to mention the great casing with individual air-holes on each speaker.

As for total power: 505W of pounding bass and surround sound. Peak power is 1010W. I'm too scared to try that YET. :p

I am pretty sure you can get a nice set of Onkyo speakers that wil blow them both for close to $400 if you are willing to spend that much.
