POLL: Which Raptor to get?

MDE

Lifer
I already have one 36GB Raptor and it's almost full (3.9GB free after cleaning out old stuff). Would it be more feasible (and faster) to get a second 36GB drive for a RAID array or sell my existing 36GB drive and get a new 74GB Raptor?
EDIT: Space for the drives, heat, nor power are an issue, just speed.

2nd drive and RAID them. Don't listen to the FUD. You should be backing up your data even if you run a single drive, and the FUD over increased risk with RAID-0 is greatly exaggerated and misleading.

It would be a cost thing for me. I would go with the one drive if money wasn't an issue, but as the other negatives for 2 drives aren't an issue for you, you can save $ by getting the 2nd 36.
I would personally go with option 3 & get a larger second drive for same dollars as you have the fast one for OS & games.

I already have an 80GB drive for media and backups, the Raptor is my Windows\programs drive. The price or either turns out to be about the same if I sell off my old 36GB drive, but that's an added hassle. I'm leaning towards just getting another 36GB drive ATM.

Get the 74 gig. Then when they have command queing controllers, you can get a second, and have very fast raid !!!

By then I'll have a new system built and I'll throw a 74GB Raptor in there from the start. All I want to know is if the 2x36GB RAID will be faster or slower than the 74GB Raptor.

i have my 74 gig raptor sitting on my pc table staring @ me... i cant use it till i get my new a64 mobo and chip... which will prolly be late may... argggggh.

I would say get the 74Gig but having to go through the trouble of selling the drive and all the crap sucks so if you know it will be easy to sell and will get a good price go that way if you can't then buy the the 2nd 36er. I am personally in love with my 74 Gig so I am a bit biased.

I don't have anything important on my boot drive, or any drive for that matter. If it's important it's backed up to CD\DVD or uploaded to my Yahoo Briefcase, data safety is the least of my concerns.

That is a tough question to answer. There are more variables when it comes to a RAID 0 setup in terms of the sizes of your files and your stripe size than with a single drive setup. However, I would bet that with a properly configured RAID 0 array of 2 36GB Raptors, it will be faster than the single 74GB in theory. If you would actually notice a difference is debatable.
