Between the two, which would you recommend for me? These are the i was fairly impressed with as i came home from OfficeMax today. For their small sizes, they're pretty sweet. Both are $199.99 so that's a negligable thing. The Lexmark definatly prints a bit faster, but the color tone is slightly off, whereas the HP was a bit slow, but it looks pretty darn close to the original. I'm not looking for speed, just an all around preformer. I'm leaning towards the HP as it is now, any opinions?

The lexmark X6170 or the The HP5510

Another factor to consider, INK:

HP: $15 / 32
LX: $29 / 34

Do you *really* want an inkjet printer? A laser (available for $99 these days) prints better, does so on normal paper, and the costs per page are significantly less. I have a Canon S820 printer, which is essentially a dedicated photo printer. It's outstanding - but I'd never use it for anything but photographs.

i'm not looking for winning any prizes on quality, i'm not professional, otherwise i would not even consider anything BUT a laser....alas, i'm a poor college student looking for an all around preformer, inkjet works fine for me.....if i need REAL quality, i can take it to a print shop

Given that you're a poor college student, wouldn't it make the most sense to get the most economical and cost effective solution - the laser? They're $79 - $99 now, and the cost per page is significantly less.

is that not just a printer? If you looked up either of these models, they both include fax/copy/scan capabilities, if i could find a laser that does thse for under 250, sign me up!

Apologies! I didn't realize that. A decent scanner is $40 or less these days and would give you all of that, plus mechanically and from a reliability standpoint is a more reliable and safer choice (ie if just the scanner part of it breaks, replace just the scanner, rather than having to replace the entire thing).

Unless desktop space is limited or prefer the convenience/aesthetics of having printing, faxing, etc. all in one package instead of a bunch of peripherals all about.
