Ok, there are two Geforce 2 MX boards at best buy. The Creative Labs Annihilator 2 MX 32 MB DDR for 129.99 and the Hercules Prophet II MX 32 MB SDR for 149.99. Now, at first glance, the Creative would obviously be better because it has DDR memory AND it's 20 dollars cheaper. But how can that be? I've heard that the Creative only has a 64 bit memory bandwith and the Hercules has 128. Is this true? If so, which one would be better?

Yes thats true... the Herc uses 128bit SDR, the Creative uses 64-bit DDR...... about the same performance. However you do know the GeForce DDR (Annihilator Pro specifically) can be found for just a bit over $100 online, and it outperforms the MX especially when it comes to high res/32-bit.

I also suggest a DDR GeForce. Performance is usually better and prices are comparable.

If you really want a MX, you can get the Hercules Prophet II MX online for about 105.

Forget the Creative! Reviews have shown its performance to be the worst of all the MX's, and this has been attributed to its 64 bit DDR memory. The Hercules will be a great buy, as will the Leadtek/Visiontek, based on the raves I have read in these forums.

Creative is slightly slower (although it overclocks well). See below:

* Creative = new design = 64-bit DDR @2x143MHz
* Other MX = old design = 128-bit SDR @1x166MHz or 183MHz

I still chose Creative in my quest to minimize heat and power consumption. It runs probably the coolest, and doesn't even use a heatsink! DDR memory itself runs at only 2.5V. The card is extremely slim and doesn't block air inside the case.

I am with Leo on this. I also have a Creative Annihilator 2 MX. And it probably is the slowest of the Geforce MX cards, but it does run cool and performs adequately for my purposes. And I got mine for $103 after a 20% off coupon (Thanks Annandtech Hot Deal forum guys! ;) I also like my A-Open Geforce 2 MX for $95 from here multiwave. I went with both cards because of price and reputation of the manufacturer. It seems that most MX cards are based on NVidia's reference design and that most of the cards from reputable manufacturers are fine. I would be a little nervous ordering an off brand card, even though they may also be good. I just feel more secure with a name I recognize.

The Creative labs card is slower compared to the Hercules. I tried both and returned the Creative labs. The Herc board has a 175 GPU/183 memory clock plus it has a heatsink (the CL board does not have any kind of cooling).
