The veiwsonic E series are junk....the PF series are nice...
A PF790,795 or PF815 (ok the 815 is 21") are nice...I'm not sure about the GS seris...

I can't remember the KDS model numbers....but if one of those is the flatscreen trinitron then it's very nice.

The Samsung 995DF is a sweet monitor...that's probably the one I'd get off the list.

Depends on what you want. I have a E790 and for a normal shadow mask (not flat) it's pretty good. It does 1600x1200@75hz, which the 955DF doesn't... And Optiquest is far worse than the E series.

One thing I'm sure of is that short neck monitors don't have as good image quality, so I wouldn't get one of those.

To come back to your list, I'd get the Samsung 955DF if you don't plan on using high resolutions (because of low refresh rates), and if you want higher refresh rates and don't care for a flat screen, the best value is the samsung 950P. BTW, I think any refresh rate below 85hz is hard on the eyes (I use 100hz...)

The E790 will do 16x12x75Hz eh? That's not so bad I guess...my friends got an E771 I think it is..17" one, and I have an oddball proview 17" that is much nicer than the E771...I don't even know who proview is...I think they might be a Panasonic supplied OEM but I'm not sure....it does 16x12x60Hz for a 17" that's pretty good :) not that you can use it..16x12 is pretty damn small on a 17" and 60Hz is atrocious...

I've heard many places that the E series are pretty crappy...but I've only actually dealt with the one, maybe it's not an entirely fair statement.

One thing about flat monitors: if you get used to them, sitting behind a usual monitor will feel like looking at a aquarium :)

I have purchased 3 950p's and all of them are awesome. I started buying samsung when I opened my Optiquest (little brother of Viewsonic) and saw a Samsung tube. I've been happy ever since
Might as well get it from the source.

I have a KDS VS-190e and even though I have heard many complaints about KDS in general I have none. I got mine for $300 out the door and have been very pleased not a lick or trouble and the quality seems fine to me.

well, it's not on the list, but i'm sitting behind a samsung 900ift

and it is EXCELLENT:D

only problem i have is that when my wife walks up behind me she scares the crap out of me:Q because there is zero reflection in this flat screen!

geometry is PERFECT and no silly lines.

go buy one......

Noriaki:

Even if the E790 does 16x12@75Hz, does it make any difference if the image quality sucks ass? My friend had a E and it got all fuzzy and unclear within a year, the E sucks and that the public should know that. I'd much rather take the GS over the E.

Topochicho:

The Samsung SyncMaster 955DF is probably the nicest looking monitor on your list, but as long as you dont use high resolutions. If you're looking to use 1600x1200, I'd recommend the NEC AccuSync 95F, it uses the same tube as the Samsung, and it does higher resolutions, also cost about $320.

you probably are meaning, the vs195sn not vs195 n. I got mine from onvia at $275 in the summer. Its a great monitor. Only problem is mine died today. I'd suggest you go with a KDS monitor, just because their support is very very good, they have great RMA policies, and are very friendly. i've heard the q95 is pretty crappy, blurry at 1600x1200. Quality wise out of the choices you put up i'd probably go for the 950p, the 955s dont do 1600x1200 i heard. Samsung's support and RMA isnt as good as KDS though from what i've heard and read. It looks like you aren't looking to spend too much, but i do suggest you also use the $50 off 200 coupon with your $150 certificate.
