OH, God and friends , pls help out and save a young creature who has been tortured by noise of his T-bird system!!!
pls pls pls!
I heard that there is some sort of case which can be isolated by vaccum layer to get rid of the noise. is this true?

What fan is this that you are considering loud? I have a Thermaltake 60mm fan which has served me nicely. It makes some noise, but it is definitely not high pitched. Also, you won't lose too much from your overclocking capabilities. Right now I have a 1GHz at 1275. For some reason I can't use a multiplier over 8.5. Otherwise, I would try for higher. =)

Well, I just ordered the Dr. Thermal TI-V77L from Newegg as well. Mixed reviews from enthusiast websites, but all the Newegg reviewers seem happy. Seems like a good choice if you just want a really quiet fan. Some guy even said he OC'ed his Athlon XP 1900+ and it doesn't go over 42 degress. His quote:

"Nice fan/HS! My temps on an overclocked AthlonXP 1900+ never go above 42c"

Well, I've received and installed my Dr. Thermal HSF onto my Athlon XP 1700+.
The good news: my system seems very stable and isn't giving me any problems.
The bad news: the fan is far from silent.

Maybe I've just been away from building custom rigs for too long, but the noise my system is putting out drives me nuts. I checked back on all the reviews and they all say that this fan is 'quiet', but I'm having a hard time enjoying any of my music, etc. I don't think I've got a defective unit, but I do think that 'quiet' in the Athlon cooling world is different than on the rest of the planet. I shutter to think of the noise that the 'loud' fans are putting out.

Now, I haven't run my powersupply without running the fan, so there's a chance that a great deal of the noise is coming from the powersupply's fan (only two fans I have running), but I'm pretty sure most of the noise is due to the Dr. Thermal on the CPU. I'll do some tests and get back if I find out the powersupply's the culprit and I need to have my hearing examined, but whatever it is, I'm definetly willing to spend some cash to make this computer shut up. What's the point of having a good sound card and killer speakers if you can't hear anything over the hum?

If you're *really* looking for a silent system, try the Papst NGL something (Isn't that the 19 or so DBA one? I can't remember) and the Pal-8045. Nothing will beat that combo! It may only be 20CFM but for an 80MM heatsink that thing will cool it down to tollerable levels.

PAL8045 w/ Papst 8412NGL can't be beaten?

Sure it can. Swiftech MC-462A or MCX462 with the same fan (Papst 8412NGL). It's rated around 19.5cfm at only 12dB. I'm using them now. :D

It's highly contested (whether or not the MCX462 is actually better than the 8045 or vice versa). Nobody so far has put out accurate tests of the aforementioned heatsinks - accurate being something that would satisfy Mikewarrior2. However, the 8045 does cool better than the MC462A. Remember, the MC462A was slightly better than the 6035.
