Poll: Which is fastest for DX9 gaming -- P4 2.8E @ 3.6Ghz, P4 2.8C @ 3.5GHz, or A64 3000+ @ 2.4Ghz?

72.73 (%) for the A64 at the current time, its gets said alot in forums and its stressed alot on other forums

Gaming = A64

Encoding= P4C

If you go Intel, go northwood, makes me wonder why they didnt give northwood a die shrink and a few tweaks instead of inventing a room heater/BBQ in the presscot

I think a 939 @ 2.4 Ghz needs a p4@3.6 to match it, a FX @ 2.4Ghz (fx-53) toast the non ee @ 3.4Ghz, and beats the ee editions by some margin in some games.

I think both of those Athlons would toast an ordinary P4 that wasn't running at about 3.7Ghz or higher. However, I don't think a Socket 754 Athlon 64 3000+ running at 2.4GHz is going to come very close to an FX or a Socket 939 A64 processor. I think an overclocked A64 3000+ running at A64 3700+ speeds (i.e., 2.4GHz), but with half the level 2 cache, is likely to perform at around 3600+ speed or somewhere in that range. That's why, in the end, I think either the P4E or the A64 would win, and it would probably be close. The articles I have read say that the P4E beats out the P4C at the same clock speed as you overclock above something around 3.2GHz. Thus the P4C should lose.

Just my two cents. I am interested in what others think though, which is why I did the poll.

I cant wait too see how much more clock speed AMD can get out of the 90 nm shrink, 3ghz would be a dream.
