Pretty basic. Which DVD writing format is going to win and why? DVD-R or DVD+R. I'm not adding DVD-Ram because it doesn't write discs that can be played in DVD players, so there's no way it's going to have the appeal of the other 2 formats.

Well, if you subtract (DVD-R) from (DVD+R), you'll get (DVD+R)-(DVD-R) = DVD-DVD+R-(-R) = 2R, so then DVD+R is better by 2R j/k :p This is what studying for a math midterm did to me :(

I thought all this got sorted out already (well, sort of) There is two new "uber-formats", like here

- DVD multi = DVD-RW and DVD-RAM
- DVD dual = DVD-RW and DVD+RW (the new Sony drive)

From the looks of this, -RW is safer to buy if you buy any of the old drives.

For the new drives there's only two formats to choose from, and they are sort of interchangeable.

LMAO!!!

Hoping link works, but, Sony has a nice about $100 more than other burners that supports both formats on one DVD +/- R/RW. Yeah... it's Sony but hopefully they'll pave the way for others to follow in making burners support both formats.

I've been holding back on getting one myself since I don't know which format my DVD player would like, so this dual option would fix that.

I heard DVD+R was a little newer and more compatible with certain DVD players. Of course, this is just heresay, and that is often times wrong. I am willing to bet that price will be the deciding factor. Whichever is cheaper will most likely prevail.
