Poll: Which console should I get?

I am thinking of picking up a console for christmas. To give you all some info:
I don't care for FPS. I have my computer for that.
I would like good football games (Madden, NCAA).
Don't really care about RPGs.
I like racing games (GT:3)

So what deal should I go for?

If it interests you at all, Gamecubes are going for $79 tomorrow at Wal-Mart.

That is cheap...but...there is just something I don't like about gamecubes. Controller for one.

For the games you mentioned, XBox or PS2.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking but I don't know which one would be the better investment. Are they the same price?

Edit: Ahh, it seems they are pretty much the same price.

Same price. ($179) If you're into multiplayer gaming online, you almost can't go wrong with the XBox sports games on Live! That along with Sega GT online and Project Gotham Racing 2 are both Live compatible (neither are of GT3 realism but PGR2 has a lot of depth). Of course I'm XBox biased though. With the PS2 you can play Madden 04 online, which you cannot with Madden on the XBox. I think the same can be said for Sony's own football game (I forgot the name of it) Do you have any friends where you can test/play for a few days?

Yeah, I have a friend who has all 3 systems and games, but he is extremely sick right now. I just wish I liked the gamecube more cause it is so cheap. Well don't you have to pay for the online play? IF so, I don't care for it.

im sure you cant go wrong with either xbox or PS2. i have both, and i personally prefer the xbox's *refinement* but the PS2 is a rocker too.

Yep. I haven't had a console since my PSX, and the graphics just blew on that thing. Playing Madden '98 made my eyes hurt.

Since he's sick now's a good time to borrow it 🙂 But seriously, sorry to hear about your bud 🙁 The Gamecube has some great games in it's own right, but it doesn't sound like you'd be very interested in the games it has to offer. Yes you do have to pay for online play. You get a year free with the Live kit (IIRC) and it's something like $49.99 a year thereafter. That's about $4.17 a month, or basically the price of an entire game. The pay thing does sound bad and turns off some people but having a structured multiplayer online environment is THE way to go with consoles. I am willing to bet thats what you will be seeing with the PS3/XBox Next/(Next Nintendo console)

IMHO Xbox is superior to PS2 in game quality and features. I own both, but i buy most of my games for the xbox, except for PS2 only games (socom). The Ps2 is nice, because once you buy the network adapter, you do not have to pay for a game service like you have to with xbox live. However, the xbox costs the same amount of money and comes with the network adapter and an 8gb hard drive.

Last console I bought was the Dreamcast, long after it's popularity died down, and I only got like 10 hours of playtime on the thing...I lost interest in it

When are the new consoles coming out?

I would buy a GameCube for:
- Mario Kart
- Zelda
- F-Zero GX
- Wario World
- Resident Evil III

I would buy a Xbox for:
- Grand Theft Auto III
- Grand Theft Auto Vice City
- Halo
- Halo 2
- NHL 2K3
- Dead or Alive 3
- Soul Calibur II
- Project Gotham Racing 2
- MechAssault
- RalliSport Challenge
- Madden NFL 2004

I would buy a PS2 for:
- Grand Turismo 3
- Grand Turismo 4
- SOCOM II
- various RPGs

So it's up to you - what do you play?

I'm thinking about an Xbox myself...

I use my PS2 often, mainly for RPGs and Gran Turismo 3.
I only use my Gamecube when there's company (best party games).

And now there are some good Xbox games I want.
Hopefully it'll get a tiny bit cheaper, or at least have better game bundles.

to be honest i think its a waste of money, at least for me, i already have an n64 and play enough computer games that i dont think i need another console... but in all fairness they all rock im addicted to nhl2003 on my buddies xbox.... id get an xbox or cube...

If you are a hardcore gamer, who can see a game as an art form, get a Gamecube.

If you are a mainstream gamer, the type that likes to play a few games now and then, get a PS2.

If you are a PC gamer, and interested in a console, get an Xbox.

I personally have an Xbox, Gamecube, and a Dreamcast. Of them all, I feel that the Gamecube has given me my money's worth, and then some.
