The wife and I have decided to get either a Canon A75 or a Canon A95. We just don't know which one we want yet.

Canon A75 Features

Canon A95 Features

I like the A75 for the price ($200). My wife likes the A95 because of the flip-out LCD screen and the 5MP capability. The A95 I've seen for around $300.

Anyone care to try to swing our debate one way or another?

You can get an A85 for $198 + shipping, I just ordered one. Just a little FYI. :)

Interesting. Well, than consider a vote for the A75 a vote for the A85! :)

Come on folks, I need votes!

My G2 had the swivel LCD and I found it useful in certain situations but it wasn't used too often. I am not missing it too much on my new EOS-20D.

Never had a digital camera before, so I don't know. All my wife's friends have Canon's though, and they all say they are very happy with them.

I also asked in a previous thread which product was better, Kodak or Canon.

The majority of the responses were Canon.

BuyDig also sells the A95 for $279.19.

Unless the swivel LCD is really important to you, go with the A85. The extra megapixel doesn't do too much.

I want the A75/A85 for the price. My wife wants the A95. (Women always seems to want the expensive stuff!)

I need some votes people! So far I've only got three!

My digicam history:

2001 - 2002: Canon PowerShot S10 (2.1 MPX)
2002 - 2004: Canon PowerShot G2 (4.0 MPX)
2004 - present: Canon EOS-20D (8.0 MPX)

All three cameras are in perfect working order. The G2 went overseas with me several times, surviving Greek beaches and the like. The EOS-20D just came back from Germany where I shot in sub-zero temperatures. Canon builds solid cameras with user-friendly GUIs and top-notch focus and color-reproduction abilities.

For comparison, I have used high-end Sonys and mid-range Kodaks. The Kodak (DX7440) was crap but the Sony (DSC-S85) was okay aside from the confusing GUI and Memory Stick requirement.

I voted with you on price :) Men need to stick together.

When I think about it, I honestly did not use the swivel LCD on my G2 all that much. The only nice aspect of it is that you can protect the LCD by swiveling it closed when not in use.

either are great cameras. basically it comes down to the extra megapixel count and corresponding extra cost. the a85 would be a good compromise.

the swivel is definitely something i'd want in a future purchase of a camera. it's really neat to take pictures at an arbitrary angle but to see what i'm taking by using that swivel dude.

i vote for the A95. i personally have a powershot S500 at the moment.

The A85 also has the swivel LCD. I beleive the only difference between the A85 and A95 is the MP rating, 4 vs. 5.

My sister-in-law has an A85 and it's a nice camera. Better than our Kodak, but at the time it was a lot more expensive too, by almost $200.

Nope, the A85 does not.

DOH! I stand Pwdndned or whatever you kids call it these days. She has the A80, which does have the swivel LCD. I knew she had a Canon, it has a flip-out swiveling LCD and is 4MP. Just got the 80 and 85 mixed up.

A95. I just got it not even a week ago and love it. Plus the swivel is really cool. Certianly adds to the wow factor of the camera.

Swivel may be a gimmick but the bigger sensor on the A95 is not. 1/1.8 in the A95, 1/2.7 in the A75, it's the same size as the G-series cameras.

Personally I would get the A95 if you can afford it

I'd recommend the A95 as well. I have the S1 IS myself (which also has a swivel LCD), and it's nice to be able to fold it in to protect it. On top of that, while during most normal picture-taking you wouldn't actually be "swiveling" it, it comes in very handy when you do want to take pictures of stuff that would be difficult if you had to keep the camera at eye level.

No, the sensor, the thing that turns the photons into digital data. Basically the bigger the sensor, less noise in the photo.
