I prefer somewhere between burbs and the sticks.. large plot of land but close enough to get to major shopping centres quickly.
That's what I would like too.

Same here, I could never give up the conveniences of "the big city" but I would like to distance myself from it physically.

Sticks as long as I can get my broadband.

Agreed.

No broadband for me. 24kbs dialup. Checked everything, nothing available right now. Fiber optic in a section between here and phone co, so no DSL. No direct line-of-sight for wireless. No satellite access. No cable for miles and miles. Sucks because I was on a T-1 just over a year ago.

we live in a suburb/sub-division, but are going to buy a house at the beginning of '04. we are going to look at something more rural, if we can find something with < 3 acres. apparently in the county we live in, you can't subdivide under 3 acres without creating a sub-division or something like that

3 acres is too big. too much crap to take care of, too much grass to mow, etc, etc

I've lived in the sticks all of my life, but I'd like to live in a city or the suburbs, at least for a while. Ultimately, I'd feel most comfortable in the country, because I can pee outside and shoot firearms. YEE HAW! 😛

I live in the suburbs and go to school in the city. Before I began going there, I enjoyed the suburbs. Now, the suburbs seem utterly boring compared to the city. Sure the extra space is nice, and if I get married and have kids I will probably move back out of the city, but at this point in my life I'm enjoying the accessibility of the city too much.

Suburbs, no contest!
  • Walk to shopping
  • Don't have to pay to park, and there's PLENTY of parking.
  • Walk to school
  • Shade trees
  • Freeways very nearby
  • Employment nearby, and city is only 20 minutes away
  • Lower crime
  • Great schools
  • Modest taxes
  • Staples, OfficeMax, Walmart, Kmart, Lowes, Home Depot, movie theaters, malls... all there!
