Assuming costs are equal. I like the diversity of Hopkins and it is definately better academically, however Brandeis gives better AP credit and offers Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and Yiddish which I may want to minor in. The other choices are not very serious just the other places I got in. I would appreciate coments and thoughts in addition to your votes. Thanks.

I picked Johns Hopkins University because it was the only one I have heard of.

Name recognition is HUGE.

I have been studying the issue a great deal and it seems that Hopkins and Brandeis are incredibly similar. The differances are name recognition, and the fact that it is just two hours away from my house. Brandeis has better food and dorms, but its reputation is not commensurate with its worth and it is six hours away.

I voted Johns Hopkins University, but then I realized that you had Boston University in the list. I've always wanted to live there. So I say Boston University.

Boston was never really a viable option to me. I applied to it as a safety because my counselor said I could probably get a lot of merit aid. I didn't so it costs the same as Brandeis/Hopkins but you don't get a top 30 education and you go to a school of like 30K where you get lost in the shuffle.

So far, Hopkins is leading the poll by a fair margin although Brandeis is catching up and BU is holding its own.

Just know John Hopkins and Boston University.

I guess John Hopkins is the famous one in your choice :)

Wow. So much seriousness at such a young age. I'm glad I never had to face the pressures you are before I had the chance to grow up and figure out what life is all about.

I said Hopkins too because I'm a junior here! Plenty of people complain about it here but personally I love it. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me and I'd be more than happy to help.

I can't believe you are going to any of those party schools :Q

Congrats on having those great choices. I would pick John Hopkins for name or Boston U because I like Boston.

Judging by those schools, you're both smart and rich enough to be successful regardless of your choice. Go wherever you think you'll have the most fun.

HappyPuppy, trust me I am not so serious. I barely worked throughout high school, which probably cost me a spot at an Ivy (which are closer to me geograpically). These schools are probably full of kids with my level of intellegence, who work twice as hard, which probably puts me at a disadvantage. I am only agonizing about this decision because it will be where I spend the next four years not because I don't know "what life is all about."
Thanks for the offer WhiteKnight. How is the Jewish community there. When I went it did not seem that big but it seemed tight-knit.

Yeah, the Jewish community isn't too big but I would agree with the tight-knit part. We're not too big (about 4k undergrad), so if you want to be active in the Jewish comm you'll definitely get to know everyone. As for the level of students here... people definitely work very hard here. I was in the same position as you, I cruised through high school and got rejected by most of the ivies (Princeton was my first choice) but I came here partly because I wanted to avoid the grade inflation associated with them. I like knowing that when I get an A I've really earned it. I've definitely learned how to work here, and I wouldn't trade my life here at Hopkins for anything. It may not be for everyone, and in fact I hated my freshman year, but now I realize that it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

How is the food on campus, and what are the best dorms and how do I get them? the dorm room they showed on the tour had these dinky little bunk beds, no way I sleep in one of those

Food is a little sub-par but it's been getting better every year I've come here and it really isn't too bad. Good dorms are Wolman (where I'm an RA) and McCoy (where I'll be an RA next year) if you are looking for space and AC and all, but the real freshman experience can be found in the AMRs. There's no AC, some mice, and communal bathrooms, but it's a lot more social than the other dorms. You really won't get to know people any better than in the AMRs. When you send in your acceptance stuff, you specify your first and second choices of where to live but the end result is a semi-random selection. I'm going to bed now because I have an exam tomorrow, but I'll be back on tomorrow afternoon if you have more questions.

I'd say Brandeis just because all the alums I know from there (both of them! :D) say the school really takes care of you
