I loved growing up in a fairly small town... it's quiet, you can still hear the frogs and/or cicadias outside at night, people still said hi to each other when they saw them.
Living in Seattle is fun, too, but it has its drawbacks.
The ideal place would be a just outside (drive < 10 miles) a smaller city (population < 150,000) that is either the state capital or is home to a large university. I think this would mean a stable economy and many big city ammenities but without all the people!
As far removed from cities/people as possible. I love woods, mountains, solitude and such. As for where, it would have to be the pacific NW...I've been all over the US and this is the only area I can stand.
