POLL: When you play a new game, what difficulty level do you use?

I personally don't see the point in playing a game at anything less than "In Soviet Russia, game plays YOU" difficulty. Replay value aside, the game just won't have the same challenge if you know exactly what's going to happen.

Started and beat Painkiller on "Nightmare", replayed "Trauma" mode once unlocked.
Started and beat FarCry on "Realistic" w/Adaptive AI on.
Now playing Doom 3 on "Veteran" only because Nightmare isn't available, and I play to replay it on that level.

I usually start off with the "normal" setting and then bump it up.

I don't understand people who consistently play on "easy", especially that lowest beginner difficulty level some games have.

normal. until i get used to it. then i re-start on hard.

its nice if you can save separate saves.

Usually normal but I'll start the game over on the next harder mode if that seems to easy after a couple of levels.

hardest avail first. if i find it too hard i'll step down a notch. i don't like to play the quicksave game, so if it comes to that, i'll step it down.

I always attempt the hardest so i can feel good about the easier ones feeling easy when i wimp out of the hard ones. 😀

I like to start off in the easiest mode to get a feel for the game. I'll usually play the entire game through on easy first, unless it's ridiculously easy, in which case I'd have to increase the difficulty...

I remember Q3 on easiest mode. On the first level you could stand still and watch the bot try to gauntlet you and miss, it was soooo sad.

i just run through the game with cheats to see what happens, and all the usually cool cut scenes.

Medium/normal. I enjoy a challengebut I'm not very good at FPSs and hard would mean playing each section 50 times (150 in Far Cry), which just isn't fun.

if it actually asks me (as opposed to having to go into options to) i'll go with easy.

no challenge you say? well i'm not looking for challenges in a game. to me, it's rather pointless and time consuming to attempt the same part 20 times. i just want to check out the cool things in the game and advance the storyline.

If there's just 3 settings then I'll use normal, but if there's 5 then I'll use the next-to-easiest. I don't want to be a pussy and use the easiest. 😛
