What's Your Oldest Computer Still in Use?

We still use an EVEREX 386 running DOS 5.0 for data-acquisition on one of our instruments. It has dual floppies a 20 MB hardrive and 8 MB RAM. No sound, CD-ROM, networking etc. An old basic box.

My dad still uses his 486 DX/2-66. 16 MB RAM, 128 MB primary HD, 800 MB secondary HD, 5.25" & 3.25" floppies, runs Windows 3.1. :disgust:

Now that my parents finally sold their second house he's think that "maybe it's time to upgrade."

TRP - Have a great 386 motherboard and memory in storage if you ever need one. What kind of instrument is yours hooked to? Had to be better than some of the Data Intergrators I used. (HPLC and gamma/scintillation counters)

Still using a 486 dx100 upgraded to a 586 dx-133 with 32 M of ram and 2 420 M hard drives. Great for my GF on the net and seems like it will last forever.

i just retired our oldest machine at work. A 286 with 40 big megs of HDD, and 1meg of ram. phew, this baby is sweet.

We had it out in our receiving dock for the blue collars to print barcode labels from.

This baby was in an environmental case that had 2 120 mm fans in it, 1 of which actually worked. Neither had filters, so the inside was caked in dirt and grime.

The fan in the PS had died years ago, and the 12" monitor was permenantly burned in with an image of the barcode program.

I wiped a tear away when i put it into storage...

iamawiz82 reminded me how sturdy those old computers used to be. That old XT probably has more steal in it's keyboard than your average Eww-Machine. Anyone who has ever tried to pick up the keyboard always go surprised by its heft. Those heavy duty springs would take punishment that your average membrane KB could only dream about.

As for the computer, we don't power it down since the CMOS battery died well over a decade ago. The power supply fan is so dirty it no longer spins but it refuses to die. 4.77Mhz and 386k of computing power chugging away.

It is hooked up to an ELECTRON PARAMAGNETIC RESONANCE SPECTROMETER. EPR for short. It's like NMR but for electrons. We recently had an old 8080 hooked up to a spectrophotmeter but it died. Thanks for the offer. We have plans to upgrade the DAQ software (and of course hardware in the process) but you never know!!!!

I still have my TRS-80, but I only break it out every now and then to "out-geek" my friends.

My parents use a P166. I have a 486sx 25MHz in storage that was being used by my grandparents up until a year ago. It runs windows 3.1 fine and boots up faster than anything else I've seen lately.

I beat all of you. I have a KayPro machine from the 1970/80's collecting dust. It works and I have the OS floppies too. Infact DOS was copied from the KayPRO OS.
It is HEAVY!!!! It has a green crt screen that is part of the machine, you can call it a suitcase. The keyboard is part of it too, its got a 5inch monitor, 2 floppy drives and something else, not too many ic's, its got a EEPROM to boot from and quite a few tubes in there.
