The parallel port. Why? I'll tell you why. You can hook anything up to this baby! It can emulate scsi, serial, even usb! All with special converters or cables. I even used to have a Parallel modem way back that blew away (at the time) any serial modem. Long live parallel.

Most useful or my favourite?

Favourite is FireWire, most useful I think i'd go with USB.

Nowadays you could run your PC fine with no external ports other than USB.

Doh forgot about that one....

You can get USB speakers, and I have a USB Nic...USB printers, scannners...game controllers....

But I don't think you can get around VGA....

PCI is good, since it shares IRQ's and offers adequate speed; AGP also was probably derived from PCI technology too.
