It seems so many people are now cognizant of their carb intake, and I'm not just talking about those on Atkins. I too have grown more aware, and I try to balance my carbs out a lot more; in other words, less pasta for me.

I'd say I average about 100-150 grams a day, and most of that comes from bread (organic whole wheat) and tomatoes (organic). What do you average?

Yes I am on Atkins. I eat a lot of green vegetables, chicken, beef, fish, nuts, low-sugar fruit, and cheese.

Low-Carb, High Protein, Moderate Fat, High Exercise. :D

Never woulda thought 5 years ago that I'd be supplementing my diet with Essential Fatty Acids in my Protein Shakes lol. That's a concept. Fat Supplements :D

I try to eat a lot of organic foods that have a lot of essential fatty acids in them (e.g. Flaxseed Oil), but the rest of my fat comes from cheese. :) I think I probably eat more cheese than I really should, but I have an affinity for extremely piquant flavors.

There's a great line from the Woody Allen movie Sleeper. At this point he has just been revived after 200 years of cryogenic freezing:

Doctor 1: Did he ask for anything?
Doctor 2: Just some honey and organic rise.
Doctor 1: What?! No deep fat? No red meat? No chocolate fudge?
Doctor 2: In his days those things were considered unhealthy, which is precisely the opposite of what we know now.

Sigh...Atkins is just the latest fad. Sure it works at limiting calories but at the expense of food variety. I'd rather just eat fewer calories and get back the variety. You know Atkins is trendy when light beer is marketed as low carbohydrate (it's pure carbs!!!!!)

My brother is on it, he eats pork chops for breakfast! It seems like half my work is on it too, always interesting going out to eat with them...

but atkins does not limit the calories, from what I've gathered it is the opposite as long as you limit carbs

It doesn't put a cap on how many calories you can eat. But when you get rid of soda, chips, cookies, bread etc. you are limiting how many calories somebody will realistically eat. How much steak and chicken can one man eat in a day? And studies have shown that the average Atkins dieter eats fewer calories in a day. In other words, it works just like any other reduced calorie "diet," it just happens to do it in a rather clever way. I would like the option to have my sandwich with bread and a Coke if I choose...

Matter of fact, I'm about to go out to burn off some of those carbs right now. 40 mins on the bike, 15 on the tred, and 30 mins on the weights. :)

I am not on Atkins, and I don't need to lose weight; however, it is my understanding that the weight loss from Atkins comes from the state of Ketosis, NOT from simply reducing the calories. Read this...

I tried the Atkins diet about 10yrs ago.

No matter how much food I ate, I never felt full. I had really bad headaches, and I smelled like meat!

I love pasta and bread. And cake and cookies and all the other lovely carbs!! :)

It's been around since 1998, so how is it a fad?
