Penny, think about it, if you ask 1 billion people to give you a penny each, you will be a multi-millionaire :Q

What about halves and dollar coins? Some of us may stop there. Not me, of course

A penny, why not pick it up? (keep in mind all money has been handled by who knows how many people, so the cleanliness issue isn't really a factor).

You did not make it clear what you meant by 'Smallest'. Are you talking about the size of the coin, or the value?

I voted dime, based on size. :D

Penny. Being responsible with the little things, lends for more effective responsibility with the big things.

Think of it this way... Let's say that it takes you one whole second to pick up a penny... You just earned money at the rate of $36 an hour! Who wouldn't take an easy job like that for $36/hr?

That being said, I voted "nickel" since pennies don't work in a vending machine (which is the only thing I use change for, anyway.)

Well the biggest amount I've picked from the ground is a quarter.

Back in Australia, I picked up several $2 coins. :D

I don't bother picking up anything smaller than a quarter, even if I dropped it myself.

I'd have to say a quarter..

if dropping change myself while standing in a line, etc.. I'd pick up the silver pieces and leave the pennies..

if dropped while receiving from cashier.. of course.. the pennies will stay.. ;)
