It's been known to snow in Dallas on occasion and we get our freezes, but it doesn't last long, January through mid-April usually.

whew lots of suggestions, thanks fellas. Sounds more and more like Texas will be the place for me. One of the things I hate is commutes, I spent the last 10 years in Illinois driving an hour plus back and forth to work. At my worst I was doing a 2 hour commute in one direction, so wherever I end up at I refuse to drive more than 15 minutes to get to work. Being close to jobs is a big factor for me.

houston is horribly polluted.

Give me a break, it is not. You've probably only been in the Texas City area. Try the Woodlands, Sugarland or Katy areas.

Or Deer Park, or Pasadena, or LaPort, or, well you get the idea. I live in the Clear Lake area and its nice here, I dont think i would really want to live in any other part. And just so you know The Woodlands, Sugarland and Katy are all a good hour from downtown, or longer if there is lots of traffic.

oh and dont EVEN think about corpus christi, the entire city is one big ghetto. I'm not kidding.

my aunt lives in Sugarland.
ive been all over that polluted wasteland.
the traffic is a nightmare, its muggy and the climate is horrible, i sweat just looking outside.
i would still put Houston over San Antonio, however.
Which really isnt saying much.

You live in Oklahoma and you call Houston a wasteland? climate is horrible? sweat just looking outside?

I can agree with some of your observations, but pollution is not a big deal if you live outside the small downtown district, which 99% of Houstonians do.

Don't forget Houston is the fattest city in the US :)

It can be a hike, but the beauty of Houston's zoning laws, or lack of, is that only about 6% of the workforce work there. Many other businesses are located outside the downtown area, so your commute can actually be much less.

Fort Worth has the most prospects on the horizon for future employment with the
upsurge in the Aerospace businesses begining to jell for Lockheed, Vought, Etc.

Austin is supposed to be the 'In Thing' for Youth, College, & Music.

Dallas has the highest crime rate in the nation right now, and is a place to avoid.

Houston now claims the highest air pollution in the country, something to be proud of.

Moved to Denton, TX (about 30 min. north of Dallas) and it really is a great place. It is growing too damn fast, though and the traffic is a pain. Carrolton, Frisco, Plano are all nice places to live, too.
