I remember being in 2nd grade, so it would have been about 1994. IIRC, it was a 14.4kbps connection from Netcom Communications.

1990 was my first internet connection, and first use of email. My dorm room at college was wired. I directly dialed into bbs-es years before that.

It was either 1995 or 1996. I really have no idea which. I had a 14.4 modem since my computer was a packard bell cheap ass special. Honestly, it was a fucking blast enough with that shitty connection. God web pages were stupid looking back then.

2400 in 1994 I believe.

Kinda hard to tell. I definitely was in college. Took me a while to get away from BBS.

1985. 300bps FTL. It was $12/hour to connect to compuserve at that time so it was nothing but an expensive time waster. I would save up to download a program that usually would crash halfway through and have to start over.

Hard drive crashes in those days meant about an hour and a half low level format followed by another hour and a half high level format.

1994, in 8th grade was the first time I ever used it.... though I do remember my mom talking about sending a letter to someone on her computer at work and them getting it instantly around 1991. Of course she probably didn't know how it worked and didn't care. :)

28.8 external Us Robotics modem
Pent 166 w/64mb ram
4mb vram Diamond Stealth 64 video card (expensive back in the day)
17" Panasonic CRT
**notes**..... Ram was $20.-$25. per MB back then!

When everything was fresh and you had no worries about web surfing (for the most part anyway)

EDIT--- I remember playing stonekeep (my first RP type Game)

91 for me as well, except I was 8 years old. We didn't have the phone cradle thing, and I believe it was the Juno dial-up. My step-mom was explaining it to me, about email her friend in Colorado - I was kinda like, how long does this take?! I also remembering the first website I looked at was the Coke website, I believe. It's been about 16 years, so forgive me if I forget heh.

24/7 connection at home: 2002

I was in Saudi Arabia until 1998 and it was ridiculously expensive back then; almost nobody I knew had an Internet connection (at home) and school was still in the planning phase of providing Internet access to students. I moved to India in '98 and we got a dial-up connection in '99 for a month - my Dad got mighty pissed with the telephone bill so that went and Internet cafes were where it was at. A 24/7 connection at home didn't happen until '02.

I have a question: exactly when did it become strange/weird to not have an e-mail address? Out here, it was somewhere around 2000 when people would start giving you a strange look if you didn't have an e-mail address.

I got it for myself after I moved out in '96, but I remember using a 300 baud modem years before that using a program called PFS First Choice (don't know why that sticks in my head).

My first time on the internet was whatever year it was that my college's computer lab got hooked up - 1994 or 1995.

I got my first computer on Jan 1, 1996 and it was that summer of '96 I first connected my computer to the internet - before my last year of college.
