Someone you know (friend / coworker) IMs you and asks for your number... you give it to them... within 1 minute, the phone rings... is it "hello" as if you aren't sure who it is or is it "hi <name> here" ?

I've been mistaken and felt like a jack@$$ so I just go with a regular "hello?" nowadays but then they probably think you're dumb for not knowing it's them.

i use the same technique when i get a call ony my cell and the number is blocked/restricted/unknown: use a phony english accent. if they get confused, great! if not, either way i get some amusement out of it.

I say "yes?" It's a better compromise between the two situations.
