My paper is due Monday, and I can't decide on which topic to do - so I'm going to let you guys decide for me :p

I'm leaning towards topic 3, just because it interests me, but I do think that topic 4 woudl be easy to BS :p

America class?

When the hell did this class get incorporated into public schools?

I'm only 19 damnit!!!!

Religion and war seems like a topic that would feed you the least amount of B.S., you don't need to be craming your brain with Native American creationism nonsense, your better off watching a violent film a few times over.

I'd pick 2, because blacks have quite a rich religious culture and history.

You're going to get lots of "relidjon am = sux0rz lolersk8z lol" replies to this. :D

I didn't have much of a choice on the class - if was the only class that still had openings in it that would satisfy my Humanities II requirement. If anything, it's more of an exploration of all of the religions in America, being an Athiest, I thought I wouldn't like it, but it's actually pretty interesting. THe most interesting thing to me is about how you learn why the majority of Americans act the way they do - it's weird thinking about how much the religios morals of our ancestors have traveled and changed through our history.

INteresting fact: Ever wonder why Americans are seen as rushing too much, working all the time, and using every spare minute we have to work instead of relaxing like the rest of the word? It all goes back the the puritain founders of america. The first americans believed that in order to live a truly religious life, and be in touch with god, one much occupy themselves at all times, striving for self improvement, etc. This idea has translated itself into the reason why america is such a rush-rush nation ;)

Also, did you know that almost all of our nations forefathers were not religious people? It went against the social norm of the time, because they favored intellectual reasoning rather than religion ;)

Yes and we're also the most productive nation, the most powerful nation, and we're a hot bed of innovation and scientific discovery.

I find it funny that some countries call us lazy when workers in certain European countries have 14 days off per month.

Hmm... I thought Americans were a lot smarter than Japanese. Japanese are slaves to the company, family, personal life, everything takes a back seat. Can you believe that most Japanese companies have only started paying for overtime in the past couple years? Up until then, employees were expected to work extra hours without reimbursement. :Q I am going to work for a Japanese company from April next year, and frankly I'm a little worried of unbearable workloads. I was wondering if people in the US had a little more common sense. Guess not...

Anyway, don't want to take the thread off topic, so please carry on with the original discussion! :)

Not to mention that the Frech have 4 day work weeks in the summer.

I have no idea whether rbloedow is in a public school or college, or some private school, but I don't think there's any problem with the study of religion in public school so long as (1) it's not presented as "fact" and (2) it's not biased towards any particular religious tradition. Of course, that's probably hoping for too much..

I like all of the mentioned topics; any, properly researched and written, would make for an excellent paper.

i voted for #1, seems like the most interesting to me... you can talk about the conflict between feminism and religion.

about topic three....

so you're saying a christian creation story is superior to a native american one?....isn't topic no. 3 more of an attack towards their religion?...they deserve more respect....

God opend the flood gates of heaven (back then, hebrews thought that there was water above the skies, and the ocean came from these gates from the sky...and the world was enclosed inside a bubble)..created the world in 6 days...

what's that so different from an indian creation story?....

donno..i think topic 3 seems offensive.....someone would misunderstand the topic and say the native americans were dumb to think of such a creation story...errr no...our creation story isn't too far off....

well,l if you are doing no.3 ..i assume it's cuz the indians were very keen of their surroundings and had a creative story to go with it....

:)

ooh that's a good alternative... you could do #3 but do it with christianity instead. kind of like that "motel of mysteries" book, or the chronicles of the "nacirema"

man...korea has it much worse.....the day doesn't end until the boss ends his day....you stay there until the boss leaves...it's absolutely rude to leave b4 the boss does...and no matter what, the boss is right....hours are long...7am - 7pm...sometimes 10pm....depending on when the superior leaves....and there's no overtime pay or anything like that...and a lot of overworking and boss abusing their workers...

i guess USA is very sheltered and this is why our economy sucks now...korean and chinese laborers work for any money and there's no worker's rights over there in asia...(ever wonder why korean cars are cheap?..because labor is cheap there...expendable, cheap, hard working laborers that won't complaine because doing so is equivalent to getting a death sentence).

so they take all the jobs....stupid ass labor unions riuned our USA by raising worker benefits..forcing companies to look for laborers in china and mexico so they can produce a cheaper product for the consumer to buy...

if bush does anything worth noting during his presendency....get rid of labor unions and worker benefits and lower the minimum wage to bring back jobs to USA....sadly it's the only way

Yes people complain about people losing jobs all the time, it's 'cause American workers are the most spoiled. True our cost of living is higher, but that's 'cause we always want to be paid more :p I don't think it's a good or bad thing, but yeah I don't like Unions. My dad's own small company was effected by a union strike(not directly), when the labor workers get paid 100k+ already.

Back to the real subject, I don't think any of those subjects are easier to BS than another. Just do the one your most interested in 'cause you do work a lot faster when you're interested than when your just BSing. When I'm BSing I get sidetracked a lot...
