Friend and I are having an argument. I think 3B takes more agility than SS, he thinks SS does. Vote please.

3B takes better reflexes and arm
SS covers more ground.

i would have to go with SS taking more agility.

No, but it's closely related. Agility is more along the lines of being able to move and change direction quickly.

3B takes better reflexes and a strong arm but the strongest arm in the infield (catcher aside) should be at SS. When playing 3B, the ball comes fast enough that you usually have the time to plant and throw, unlike SS. Well, that's the theory anyway :)

Spot on. SS has way more ground to cover than 3B.

wait so ur saying 3Bs have time to plant and throw? i thought they called it the hot pocket for a reason, it's much closer to the plate than SS and the ball comes flying fast to that side from a lot of hitters

Yeah, it comes so fast that the runner can't get far down the basepath when the 3B gets it, thus he has plenty of time to plant and throw.

hahahah It's the "hot corner" not the "hot pocket". And yes since you're closer to the plate, the ball takes much less time to get to you. Assuming the ball doesn't take your head off, once you catch it you have more time to throw the runner out.

Ahhhhh...shortstop and third base. Why are you talking about this now? Baseball season is quite a ways off yet.

That would require quicker reaction time, maybe, but not better agility.

this argument came about when discussing who should play 3B and who should play SS between a rod and jeter. i'm saying jeter shoiuld be at third cuz he's a smaller guy and is more agile

I'd stick with Jeter at SS for the Yanks, he's played there for them for years... Posada and everybody else is used to him being there.
As for third, Boone was only there for what, a year or two?
Go with what you know works
