Lifer
Sooo...I frequent a message board pertaining to the car I own, a Chevy Beretta. I sometimes surf the For Sale board...and sure enough, there's something I need on there.
I email the guy privately (mistake) to buy the filler panels for my car. He gives me an address, full name, real house address, and a cell phone number so I feel confident this guy isn't just eating my money. I send away my $135 CDN money order to him. This was June 17th.
I wait...wait...wait...and after 3 weeks, I realize it isn't coming. I send numerous emails, with no reply. So I remember...ah yes, he has a cell phone number! So I call it up, explain who I am and he acts very convincingly that it must have been a mistake and he'll send the extra filler panels off of his car (being a fellow Beretta owner...supposedly...). I ask why he hasn't replied to the emails, and he says his computer has been down and he'll have it back tommorrow. Plausible, I think.
2 hours later, and he's sent me an email. So much for getting it back tommorrow? Oh, and he 'confirms' my address with me which was TOTALLY wrong to an extent it was obvious (to me) that he just added random letters all over the place. So I call him and leave a message the address is wrong and email him the correct one. He replies in the morning that its already been sent and he'll let me know if the post office returns it...
Another 3 weeks later, and I realize again I am not getting anything from this guy. I am very discouraged from calling him again, as he is 48 (The message board displays birthdate...and he sounded like it) and really phone intimidates me (I'm 17).
Should I goto the cops? Both of my parents are in consensus they will do nothing for me as this guy lives on the oppisite side of Canada...and I'm 17...and its such a small amount of money. I'm thinking they are right.
Eat the loss? It was a mistake, but I could sure use that $135 right now...
I gave a shot and emailed his ISP (I got his IP from the message board Admins) about my problem, that was Tuesday, doesn't look like they are going to bother giving me a hand.
