Poll: What should I do with my old car? 1994 Geo Prizm.

I've got a 1994 Geo Prizm that's about to be replaced. It runs decent, has a working AC, auto tranny in good condition, has new set of tires and front brakes. Body is solid, paint in so-so condition. It has ~140K miles. It needs to have transmission serviced, hood release latch repaired, tuned up, and cleaned.

I can't decide wether to sell it or donate it. Come on in and vote!

Thats cars a Toyota Corolla so its still going to get a decent price despite being 12 years old ... for somone who doesn't drive far and/or is a decent mechanic it would be a reliable ride, you should sell it for sure.

Where abouts do you live and I will come and get it. You can donate it to me. My mother in law is in a serious need of a better car. She has a old Toyota thats on its last leg that isnt worth fixing. If you decide to let it go I would love to give it to her.

I'm in Louisville, KY. I would love to give it to your MIL, but I meant to donate to charity for a tax write off. I doubt I would be allowed to just give it away, sorry.

Well how about this. The new law passed will no longer allow you to donate your car and get book value for it. So really they are going to say your car is worth $500. So tax will be what on the high side 10% right?? So how about instead of getting alousy $50 on your taxes I give you $100 instead and double your money right there tax free 😀

many of the "donation" things are scams

and the IRS has changed the rules, you can't write off large $ for old crappy cars, you only get fair market value

just sell it , money is money
