They're pretty damn racist over there, sadly enough. You should ask some black GIs stationed in Japan . . ..

Anyhoo, big businesses like philosophy because they think that the applicant is a "thinker", and apparently liberal arts majors consistently get better scores on tests for interviews than job-specific majors (other than a specialized technical job, of course). Of course there are exceptions, but that was the impression that I got from a lot of business majors - they're in college to get that piece of paper only. Nothing more.

Get a grad degree now. If you go into the english teaching thing in japan that so manyt do, it's going to be tough to go back to school after.

In regards to going to japan and coming back having saved money don't. Nobody actually saves money on these things. For every person that comes back with savings you've got 10 who spent all of it. That's just how it goes. You could go there for a while, but I'd tell you to get your graduate degree first. Of course I don't know what a grad degree in liberal arts is worth :)

get your degree and then apply for one of the teaching programs over there. i think its called the jet program. i visited my cousin over there who had been teaching english for the program for 2 years. she had graduated college and didnt relaly know what she wanted to do so she did that. looked like it worked out great and now she is back in grad school studying to become a doctor
